interesting event!
okay S2K fellow owners! two things..
1. does anybody know why the S2K speedometer flashes "288"when the car first starts? I think it's very cool but not sure if there's some explanation behind it.
2. last week I got into my S2K and the odometer was way off...it should have read 99, 683 but instead read 174, 738! I held down the Selector button on the dash and got it back to the correct reading...I must have accidentally held down that button instead of the Trip...last time I put gas in (it was dark)...but my question is...what a random # that is?! where did the computer find that 174K #?
looking forward to hitting 100k today on my S2K...!

Have to agree with both responses.... i sometimes have to switch between MPH and KMH. When you hold down the button to switch modes it changes both the speed and odometer numbers.

As for the 288, my guess is its just firing up all the pixels, all the segments that might ever get used in the speedometer. Probably as a sort of diagnostic to demonstrate they are able to light or not.
The number 8 uses up every pixel and every segment. The car can only go so fast, so the first digit will probably not be higher than 2, even in Kilometers, and even in a modified S. The only plausible values for that first digit are 1 or 2 or blank.
Of course, using 2 as the test digit for that Most Significant Digit doesn't test the other segment used to produce the digit 1. I guess to test that segment you have to just drive 100 or more (much easier if you switch to KPH).
