I think there are too many egos involved with both parties involved, and the comments are becoming childish (my car is better than your car.) The fact of the matter is, the Miata is a great car, and the S2000 is a great car. In stock form, the S2000 is obviously more performance oriented. But if you own a Miata, you can add a FMIII turbo and 0-60 times will drop well under 5 seconds. Now the Miata becomes the better performer. It is all personal preference. I test drove a Boxster, used NSX, S2000, Miata, and new RSX. All of them are great cars, but I ended up with the Miata because it gave ME (not necessarily everyone) the same amount of fun and quite a bit of money left over to go towards vacations, rent, modifications, etc.
All of the other cars I drove will out accelerate the Miata, but with my handling mods I guarantee I will stay with them through any corner.

WRS2K - Having a tough morning already?
It was a pretty wild evening.
Thank you WRS2K, you made my point.
My ego has nothing to do with this. Your ego can't accept the fact that the S2000 is a much better engineered vehicle even if it is $8K more than your car.

Auto-Xs whatever... that has more to do with driver skills than anything else. I'd get my ass whooped by many of you X guys even if I was in a better, lighter, more nimble car than the S2000.

My simple point is--I'm talking stock for stock--even if it is $8K more, you get what you pay for. Superior performance characteristics. Like I said, I'm going to be brutally upfront about this. No more dicking around.

Well, I`ve been out on the road for the most of the day, and I honestly has to say that this car gives me the same thrill today, that my Uncles Miata gave me back in `90. At that time, I couldn`t afford one, but I have had a Miata-wish through all of the 90`s. When I at last could afford one, the S2000 came, and then I had to spend another year raising enough money .
In my point of wiew: the S2000 is just a result of evolution in modern roadsters, giving mankind of the 21 century a little bit more than the Miata gave in 1989.

Well I guess it all comes down to where your priorities lie. You can have a blast in a 90,000 dollar NSX. You can have a blast in a 40,000 dollar Boxster. You can have a blast in a 32,000 dollar S2000. My friend has a blast in his '99 Miata that he paid 14,500 dollars for. Some spent most of their money on cars, some distribute it more evenly, and some buy a beater and couldn't care less about driving fun.

The Porsche 911 Turbo will hand your ass to you
You all will hand my ass to me

We will all be pulling .9+ g's through the turns.

Regardless, we will all be having a hell of a lot of fun.

Greetings from the miataforum.

Just my two cents: To give credit where credit is due, this is a paraphrase of a recent post on the miataforum that made a lot of sense to me:

THE low-priced classic-style roadster: Mazda Miata
THE low-priced modern roadster: Toyota MR2 Spyder

THE mid-priced classic-style roadster: BMW Z3 convertible
THE mid-priced modern roadster: Honda S2000

THE high-priced classic-style roadster: Porsche Boxster
THE high-priced modern roadster: Mercedes SLK

That's it. And as the original poster said, it really is that clear-cut when you think about it.

When I say "THE," I mean the only widely sold and marketed (thus no Lotus', Ferrari's, etc.). When I say roadster (which I'm sure goes without saying...) I mean lightweight 2-seat convertible (a definition which gets a little "looser" when applying to the SLK).

I love my Miata. I'm sure ya'll love your S2000's. And I'm sure we share a mutual disdain for the Z3's.

Don't you ever get tired of this?

As someone who's been a part of many different car boards I've seen this same conversation over and over. I've heard Prelude owners say their car is better than a Type-R, Miata owners downing the S2000, S2000 owners talking smack about the M-Coupe and Boxter, and god-forbid you bring the domestics into the equation. I can only imagine the turmoil that will arise on this board when the Z and RX-8 are released.

Do you remember back in school when you used to make fun of the fat kid, or the dumb kid? You remember why? To make yourself look/feel better. The truly happy people won't need to compare themselves, their car, their house or bank accounts to anyone else. My advice is not to perpetuate these types of threads.

Do these guys even know why the S2000 has a 2.0 Liter engine? I think it was because of advertising reasons since it was a 2000 model. Also the miata is a fun car but i still dont get why they need a 3.0 liter engine?? Honda is known to produce the most powerful 4 cylinder engines and plus 6 cylinder engines are usually used in sedans. Also, if you got 10,000 extra you can make a s2000 run as fast as some exotics....

This is what I think of Miatas.

Miata's are like Fat chicks. They are fun to be with and around, but you don't want to be seen with them by your friends or anyone else for that matter.

If you drive a miata don't get affended this is just my thoughts.

correct me if I'm wrong, but if harbir (?? right spelling ??) likes to slide around, just tell him to trade the S02s with some all season tire.

That should fix his dilemma right??
