Also the typeface is a little different from one country to another and the numbering convention too, e.g. you can tell how old a UK car is from its plate and the plate stays with the car for its life (normally), whereas in France you change plates when you change what region you live in so although it might be a new plate the car might be old. Bonus for me as I have a Nov 2000 car with a March 2002 plate and nobody can tell its real age.

I agree that the blue part is consistent now and am a real fan of losing the damn great GB or F stickers you used to have to spoil the look of your car with.

Anyway my preference would be to lose the front plate if I could but it's a legal requirement here. At least it saves some of the stone chips...
