Just got 29.2 mpg, does that mean the engine is now broken in?
I had been consistently averaging 26.5 miles per gallon on my car up to about the 900 mile mark, then from there up to its current 1300 miles, I have been averaging a little over 29 mpg. Also, my oil consumption on the first 900 or so miles had been about a half a quart and now seems to have substantially subsided in the next 400 miles. I dont believe the engine will be fully broken-in until about 7500 miles, as other members have posted, and know I should not change the break-in oil until around 5,000 miles. However, I noticed that when I Vtec'd (a dozen or so times) in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, oil consumption increased. When the engine is fully broken-in, should we expect to see continued oil consumption while in VTEC mode? Also, is it a good idea to VTEC as often as possible with the break-in oil (assuming you have more than 600 miles on your car), or try to hold off VTECing until after 5000 or so bmiles?
Man, your mileage is too good! I don't know about all that other stuff but you definitely need to visit VTEC more often and lower that mileage
No need to have an ass kicken car and drive it like a wuss, j/k

According to someone at Comptech, Honda stated there is more oil comsumption with VTEC usage.
Also, I would think you have a lot of highway commutes to get such mileage? I know the only time I got over 30 mpg was a trip from SoCal to Page, AZ.

I am doing all highway miles and I am purposely trying to take it easy on the car until the 5000 mile mark. It is extremely difficult to resist the urge to VTEC evertime I take it out, but feel that by breaking it in slowly, I will have more VTEC miles awaiting. I owned a '90 Miata and broke it in the same way, and when I got rid of it it had over 120,000 miles and was as strong as ever, and didnt burn a drop of oil. Am hoping for the same results with the S2k.
OMG what are you doing? PLEASE tell me!!!!! I decided the other day to really check what kind of gas mileage my stook would get if I treated it like...well...a civic... I filled it up...drove straight onto the freeway...put it in 6th at 76 mph which is exactly 4000 rpm and drove 95 miles. I never touched the accelerater or brake once, cruise control the whole way! The gas mileage was 25.21 mpg!!!!!! I normally get about 14mpg, but I don't see 30 mpg even possible. The conditions were almost perfect as well, little to no wind. The terrain was generally hilly, but not excessive. I have 1,300 miles on my stook, and have been very unhappy with my gas mileage ever since I got it. Don't get me wrong, its not like I care that much, but my 3000lb Conquest Tsi that had 300hp and 350lbs of torque got 29mpg! This gas mileage thing really stinks, sorry. Just had to vent.
I'm getting a combined mileage of 22mpg. I didn't know high 20's were even possible. I traded a 2000 MR2 Spyder for my Stook and it got 31, but I will say I drove it much more conservitively than this one. I just can't stop V-techin.
