Default Just got 4.77 gears installed

Well, about a year ago I opted for 4.44 gears b/c I did a lot of highway driving and from what others posted it seemed the 4.77 gears may get anoying. My gut told me to get the 4.77 anyway, because I always want more. This proved to be the case. I cut back on highway travel by 1/2, so I figured now is the time.

The 4.44s offerred improved acceleration and less bog at the start. They allowed me to slowely pull stock Mustangs, 350z, G35, 750's. All of these cars, on paper, should be around the same as me. So, I would say they did the trick.

The 4.77s are a whole different story. Acceleration from 1st through 3rd is night and day. Remember this is coming from 4.44s not the stock gears. Highway rpms don't seem that bad while going 75-80.

I think the biggest thing for me is that I don't need to do a clutch dump from 6k rpms to get the car moving quickly. I never liked that about our cars and never felt this was somthing I would do long-term with our weak clutches and diffs. Haven't raced anybody yet, but look forward to it shortly. A friend's brother has an 03 Boxster S that I would love to race. This guy is all about image and toys even though he has no business doing so financially. I don't think I would have any trouble with an unmodded Boxster S. I think they were maybe a little quicker or even vs a stock s2000. I know I'm faster than that.

Congrats on the gears!
I've been thinking about getting final drive gears too, trying to decide 4.56 or 4.77

My gut is telling me to get 4.77 for the same reason you listed.

PM sent with a question.

Can someone post the RPM difference at various mph with stock versus 4.77 gears? Like 40, 60, 80 mph? Thanks!
