Ask your self this, How often do you actually drive over 125 anyway?
...or you could ask your self how many drives with the Metro NYC crowd will I be doing??

seriously, the consideration that I have only seen 125+ a handful of times and am not constantly up there at that sppeed meant that little weight was put on the reduced top speed in my decison to go with 4.56.

Current AP2 top speeds in mph (based on http://www.turnzero.com/technical_resource...gear_calculator with 8000 rpm redline)
36.9
56.5
78
99.5
122.5
151
Using the gear calculator in provided link, top speeds in mph for AP1 with 4.77 rear end (8900 rpm redline):
36.8
56.4
77.9
99.3
118.7
142.2

looks like the stock AP2 transmission is comparable to AP1 with 4.77 gears in 1st to 4th, and a bit taller in 5th and 6th. With the extra torque provided by the 2.2l motor, imo there is little need for gears in AP2.

So here's the Question. Since (from what I gather) the ap1 with gears will take a good lead on a stock ap1 (do we all agree ?). Then why doesn't a ap2 with (could call it near 4.77s comp to ap1 and with more power and TQ than a 2.0L) why doesn't a stock ap2 walk an ap1 ??

Is it the extra shifts required and/or is it the crucial extra rev range you get with the ap1??

I think the extra shift make the most difference in acceleration times. This is most evident in the 0-60 tests that car magazines perform, where cars that need to shift to 3rd to reach 60 hurt their 0-60 times greatly.

Has anyone ran the 1/4 mile w/ 4.56's?
How many tenths did they pick up if so? That would be the selling point for me. It's stated and shown in said video a 4.56 vs stock pulling that much further. So if that is the case and we are going w/ a ~+10% factor increase through the powerband I want to see the performance gain.

I can't believe so much is disputed over 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, its not everything you know...
Granted, it is a form of measurement, but a misleading one in my opinion because its more about proper launching, suspension set up, TIRE CHOICE and controlling wheel spin to get the best times here. I think what really matters is measuring 30-90 mph time, 60-110 or something like this. This is where traction isn't an issue and its more about power and gearing. I'm going to bet the results from a test like this would prove the gears to be faster.

I'm interested because that is why I would get the gears. For better 1/4 mile times...
Nothing misleading about JoeBlow running 14.2 stock consistently and then installing gears and running a 13.8 w/ gears consistently. Sounds like a pretty good measure of performance.
thus why I'm asking if anyone has any times w/ and w/o gears installed.

so an AP2 is making power faster at the motor...but then slowing down power output at the back of the tranny...

even though similar, the 4.77 AP1 will get to its top speed in each gear "quicker" than an AP2...

i could be wrong, so if anyone has a better understanding, chime in...
So you are saying in a given gear an AP1 with 4.77 gear will reach 8900 rpm faster than a stock AP2 reaching 8000 rpm even though the overall gear ratio from flywheel to rear wheel and engine output is roughly the same? Hmmm, interesting. Someone please explain this to me. thanks.
