keep in mind, the 25whp statement is a bit misleading, since most people realize that you'd be talking peak hp. gears don't just add it at the peak.

it's like an extra 25whp more at every single rpm throughout the entire range.

that's a HUGE difference when comparing to something that gives you 25whp peak, but not so much everywhere else.

and you'll put about 6 cars on a stock S2000 from a stop or low speed roll to 100mph.

How would these gears work on an AP2 with the lower redline? I think I remember plugging it into a gear/speed calculator and my top speed would be limited to a measly 125mph or something at redline in 6th?!?!

I'd love to do gears because they made a HUGE difference when I did 4.10 gears on my C5. More thrust from any gear and any rpm.

Badly, IMO. But that's just based on my driving style.

Current AP2 top speeds in mph (based on http://www.turnzero.com/technical_resource...gear_calculator with 8000 rpm redline)
36.9
56.5
78
99.5
122.5
151

AP2 with 4.56 rear end:
33.1
50.8
70.1
89.4
110.1
135.7

You'd get more thrust, sure. But the speed range in each gear would be so annoyingly short as to completely offset that in terms of enjoyment. Your C5 already had rather tall gearing to begin with, didn't it?

I think the 6th gear top speed was ~135mph for the ap2.

the 4.77s in the ap1 are good for ~142mph. So (I wonder) if the 4.56 on the ap2 are more similar to the 4.77s in the ap1
id say your right on the money. i dont know why anyone would change gears on an ap2. mine are perfect to me. launch is sick, no slow between gears, just pull, shift, pull, shift. and 157 is not enough top speed IMO. id imagine it would only get faster, but it seems like the wrong direction to go. especially if your going FI. then you want the higher gears, cause youll have the tq to push em. but hey, whatever floats your boat. lates

The S2000 hit an areo wall at about 140 anyway. The only reported times that an S2000 had gone over 140 is in a tall wind, down a grade over a long straight away. There is two current threads (in the last two days) of AP2 owners running 4.57s and how they liked them. You get to your top speed faster by changing the rear gears. Even with FI in some case. But with higher HP FI, you are correct (450+) then longer gears will help keep the tires from breaking loose. But the number of 400+ S2000 can be counted on your fingers, with a few to spare.

Ask your self this, How often do you actually drive over 125 anyway?

Actually it should not be +25hp at every engine speed, it should feel like ~+10% of what HP you are making.
yes, good point.

exactly. i went 162mph in my ap1 ONCE. and since then I've gone over 125 MAYBE 2 or 3 times. if that.
