KEEP IT OR LET IT GO
You did not say how long you would be over there. I lived in Rome for a little less than a year, going to school and have been going to Europe almost every month for the last 20 years. As money is no real problem for you, I would be inclined to keep the S in this country. Put in proper storage or let someone you trust, old man maybe, and have them keep it garaged and run it every other month.
Get a fun little car over there and sell it when you leave. Cars tend to get beat up in Italy unless they are chauffeur driven. There are always dirty. Have fun! Italy is my favorite country. Hope you can speak the language. Molto bene!

Nothing hypocritical about it. Worth isn't just a matter of being able to afford something. Worth is always a highly subjective matter regardless of topic. No one can tell the OP if it is worth it to him or not. He knows the costs and it's up to him to determine if it's worth it to him using his own preferences, priorities, etc.
There are no guarantees. Many things get shipped safely in containers. That said, accidents do happen. Containers end up in the water and on the ocean floor. We can't tell the future for you.

But I also agree with above poster, it's not contradictory. Being able to and it being worth it are completely different.
2004 with only 23K miles? Wow! I have a 2004 also, but now with 104K miles. I don't really drive it as much now since there's 3 in the family, but I can't seem to let it go. If I was moving, I'd take it with me.
