Default keep MY00, or go MY04 or G35?

i currently have a MY00 w/ 41k miles and the only part that shows the age is the paint. the interior is immaculate and the drivetrain is flawless. i was already trying to decide whether i wanted to pick up a MY04 or a 2003 G35 with a 6 speed when a 4 runner changed lanes into my fender the other day and made my decision harder. he has admitted fault and his insurance company will be fixing it in the next few weeks.

the damage is real minimal but it will definitely require the fender being replaced and possibly the front bumper repainted. there is also a section on the rear bumper that was repaired after a past hydroplane incident and the paint has never matched up just right. this is another reason i have been "turned off" on keeping my car and putting money into it.

anyway, the only part i really don't like about my car is the paint condition so i may consider getting the entire car painted while it goes in for this repair. i assume it will cost around 3k for a decent re-paint of the same color at a reputable shop.

anyone have experience with this? should i put 3k more into an old car or just get it fixed and buy something else?

If your not happy.......it's time to move on. There are numerous people on this board that have done so.

If your discouraged because your car got damaged......that's normal. I get depressed over a door ding.

Why don't you let the insurance fix the car back to new. See how you feel about it after it's fixed. I think most of your woes will be gone. If your still eyeballing the 04 or G35's.......then go for it....

Get the car fixed and check it out... If the fact that the car was damaged or anything else still bothers you, then you won't be happy with the car... Once that issue has been resolved, then you can decide whether to get a MY04 or a G35...

The way I see it is cars are bound to get dings, chips, etc. Yes, I guess you could baby it and never drive it, but what fun is that? If you're not happy with it and you think you'd be happier switching, go ahead. But it kind of seems like (typically) guys are the way about their cars like girls are about shoes. She spends a lot of time and money worrying about the right shoes when in reality, no one really gives a f***. There are a few blemishes on my car but no one seems to notice it but me. And don't let it bother me so I'm fine!
