All I can add is that I would hate to live somewhere where I thought I needed to carry a gun or knife to feel safe.

Get a good single hand flip knife. Get a Gerber knife holster with a velcro flap and wear it upside down.
It doesn't catch on stuff and you can learn to be a fast draw flick artist in no time.

That move saved my ass in Jamaica once and it makes a great rig for sailing if you ever need it.

Yes, because in the event of the most likely tragedies that may happen in life, a gun will be the best tool you can have on you...

I didn't miss your point, I just don't agree with it.
I wanna live where you live.

this happened to me once and i switched the knife to my left pocket... and i also carry a gun daily. i hopefully will never need to use it for self defense but i know i have it if i need it. I respect law enforcement, but i am not going to wait for them to save my life or my family.

I had the same problem and paid the price on the wheel of my 2000 Si. Lot of good ideas here.

Ummmmm, no . . . . it is probably the least likely by a ridiculously wide margin, I still choose to prepare for it. If I never need to use the gun (or the knife, or the defense spray) in my lifetime, fine by me. Preferable, in fact.

Do you carry 3 days of food and water in the trunk of your car?

i appreciated your contribution to the intial subject of this thread, but i'm having a hard time understanding exactly why you are attacking those who chose to carry a firearm. i see no problem with someone choosing to carry a weapon as long as they are doing so legally, are properly trained and handle their right to carry responsibly. i need to get my ccw permit so i can do so as well. you're right, the odds of ever needing to use a firearm in self-defense are low, but if an unfortunate situation should ever arise, those carrying a weapon are better equipped to do what is necessary. i'd like to see more people carrying weapons actually, as long as they were adequately trained and demonstrated proper responsibility. if more criminals started having holes put into their chest when they tried something, maybe they would try an easier way to make money, like getting a job.

3ngin33r1, i am the OP and i don't daily carry a firearm. but you and i both know that you intended it as a slight when you told the guy it was "quaint" that he would need a firearm for self defense. you don't have to call someone stupid, retarded, a redneck or a pussy to imply it. you seem like a smart guy so im sure you understand. i actually agree with a lot of what you wrote in the previous post. but don't decieve yourself into thinking you made no attack.
