This mod is coming along nicely, even though everyone else involved is working against me!!!

I don't like to buy anything used, but I wanted to get a PRM Intake before the HIN Show. I talked to Gerry at PRM, but he said there were none available. (Strike One!)

Then I saw the thread from Russ about the used PRM Intake, so I posted this:

And this is the response I got:

Re: PRM intake canister/CAI pipe
Pete,
You'll probably need to work at getting the Rubatex off because it has an adhesive backing but it really helped in keeping the temps off the canister. I'd remove it and repaint the canister as another has done. That looked trick. The canister is in great shape, no dents. A money order is fine if you want or you can paypal it but I'd ask that you throw in their ridiculous EBay-driven fee ($3) ontop of shipping which I'll guess would be $8 USPS Priority, so $91 total to [EDIT] if you want to paypal or I'll send you an address for a money order.
Russ

Yeah, right. The canister is in great shape, no dents, BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS:

Also, under the Rubitex, there were some deep scratches on the canister that I couldn't sand out. (Strike Two!!)

When Gerry from PRM saw the pics of the velocity stack, he said he would send me a new one for free, since I was already paying for a new filter ($35 plus shipping), but it won't be available until well after the HIN Show. (Foul Tip)

So I was stuck with what I had. I spent many hours trying to get the stack back into shape, and I painted it with Black Wrinkle Finish paint to hide the remaining damage, I also positioned it to hide the worst part.

The paint shop had the canister, so there was nothing I could do but wait. They strung me along until the day before the show, and didn't get it painted! (Strike Three!!!)

I had to do a quickie spray can job, which turned out amazingly well. If I would have had time to shoot some clear coat, it probably would have been a great match to the Sebring body color.

I spent around $40 on hoses, clamps, paint, etc. Also, Russ kept one of the silicone connectors, so I had to buy a replacement, and a matching one for the other side, which were $55 from HoseTechniques.com.

Here's what it looks like now:

I also removed the metal tube loom, and tried to run all of the lines as cleanly as possible. I don't need to move any lines to switch back and forth between my OEM and PRM. I'll get a better pic soon:

My plan is to wrap the Intake Tube and Velocity Stack (outside only) with carbon/kevlar, and to have the paint shop match the canister to the Sebring body paint. I'll also get some better clamps.

-Pete

wow that looks great actually. I never liked the PRM, but yours i like!
maybe RUSS' theory of Thermal dynamics can explain why he sent you a dented chamber when he said it was fine.

Kodokan_4, RatedS2k, had that mod done a long time ago. His PRM is painted in bleu. He has painted almost everything you can think of in blue, he is a paint freak.

Whoa Pete, this is news. Why no PM? OK, if you want to discuss what you felt was a sour transaction that's fine but let's at least acknowledge you bought a USED intake that was modified at least a half dozen times before I decided to sell it for what, 25% of its original price? I told you the canister had Rubatex covering and it WAS in great shape. I sold it with the Rubatex covering intact. I have plenty of pics for those who are being led to believe otherwise. The BOTTOM of the intake (not visible from above the engine bay) had the Rubatex laid as shown (IOW, uneven) but that wasn't a major concern for me. You decided to remove it and now complain about what was UNDERNEATH the adhesive covering? If you wanted a new intake for a show car, why would you have bought a used one for peanuts? The canister had NO dents but the vinyl sticker (at the point where the canister was attached to an L-joint) had peeled away. I don't consider that a DENT nor do I consider that detremental to how the intake performs. I'm surprised you didn't complain about the filter inside being dirty. Good lord, you could have paid Gerry $275 for a new PRM but you told me you were going to paint it. I told you getting the Rubatex covering off would be difficult but I didn't recall any scratches on the underside of the Rubatex so for that, I definitely apologize. I just mailed out another PRM canister and steering wheel and both buyers were extremely happy with the condition as described. I priced the intake accordingly because it WAS used and had been tinkered with quite a bit. As for the horn, that is how it was delivered to me from PRM....yes, bent like that but I never brought it up to Gerry because frankly speaking, once inside the canister, it fit perfectly. When I said "no dents" I was describing the part of the intake visible (IOW, the canister).
You told me you wanted to paint the canister and it certainly appears to have come out well (nice job!) but I'm not exactly sure what is the point of including a photo of uneven Rubatex on the BOTTOM of the canister? Once removed and filed away everything was going to be repainted anyway. As for the hoses, I told you what silicone attachments you were going to need so that should not have been any surprise. For a can of spraypaint and an hour or two of effort, you have a nice intake for under $100. It appears to me the sour points you have are sort of nit-picking.

1. The Rubatex was uneven at the bottom and the sticker was peeling (again, at the underside of the intake, not seen by the eye)
2. There were scratches on the intake covering once the Rubatex was removed. I sold the intake WITH the Rubatex covering intact so as I mentioned before, any scratches on the canister were unbeknown to me otherwise I would have told you.
3. The horn was dented. Yes, but I never said the horn was in perfect condition because I received it exactly like this. The part dented also goes into the canister, again, unseen. I described the canister as being in great condition and despite your complaints, I still feel it was. There were NO dents on it and you know this.

Overall, it appears to me you thought you were getting a pristine intake and were upset at the work needed to bring it up to snuff but I felt for the price I was asking, the price was indicative of the product's condition and had you taken the intake out of the box and attached it to your engine bay, it would have performed exactly as described. The fact that you wanted to modify it for a show car was your decision. I sold a used PRM and there are tens of photos of this very same intake in the archives. There was no secrets or misleading sales pitch here. The intake was USED and as a result, you saved $200. I tried but could not locate any PM from you requesting your money back (which I would have gladly done) so I think it's sort of tacky to come on here with a thread proudly displaying my "horribly disfigured" canister and acting like you were "ripped off" at the same time you're posting pics of how pretty it looks. It would have taken you just two minutes to PM me asking for a refund so why didn't you? I guess you were to busy painting it. It makes me wonder, on a lighter note, do you lick the plate clean after a 12-oz New York Strip and then ask for your money back because it was overcooked?
Anyways, great looking canister!

Interesting cheapshot considering the plethrea of intakes which had to be returned to you because of dents. Shall I?
"Hello, it has been brought to our attention that the method of shipping may have caused damaged to the intake pipes."
Of course, it's always convenient to blame it on UPS or "factory imperfections."
This one's for you B,

Playing around with verb tenses to get around the fact that you sent him parts that were not in the condition that you implied them to be in is pretty devious. Who do you expect knows that you mean "no dents" only describes "the part of the intake visible?"
