Hmmm...it doesn't sound as if any of those choices fit exactly what you want, so you might have to just go with the one that seems the best for now. I personally would go to Savannah, GA. Atlanta, a very cosmopolitan city, is not far away if you get small-town fever. Savannah has lots of charm and the attraction of the water. And you are not real far away from your family.

You are right about Scottsdale...it is *very* expensive to live there. But there are other communities around Phoenix which aren't too bad. Of course, you have to like the desert climate.

As mns2k said, try to look upon this as an adventure, not a hardship. Good luck!!

If I were you I'd probably do either PA or GA. Savannah is a really nice place to live, you'll probably like the weather a lot more there. PA however is pretty near you sick mom, dunno how serious, but its pretty close to your family. I'd say east coast .

Oh and btw, don't worry about girls, you have an s2000 and there are still plenty left .

I was from RI. I moved to Gainesville, FL (a "po-dunk town" compared to some of the places you've lived) 15 years ago. I love it here. And if I was in your situation, I'd choose Savannah, GA. Better weather, close to Atlanta, better cost of living, and you'd be able to drive your S2K nearly year round! And of course, the east coast, beaches and close proximity to Florida, SC, NC, TN (the Dragon), etc.

At least you can GET a job

There are people I know who were laid off from Merrill Lynch almost four years ago, and have never found work in the IT field since. One guy was a Project Manager, pulling in around $125k. He now works as a bank teller during the day, and packs UPS trucks at night.

file for unemployment benefits. that will help you out for several months while you work. i would say to look for another line or work. is there anything you like doing? look on www.jobsok.com and http://www.opm.state.ok.us/html/current_jo...nouncements.htm

If you do end up moving, don't be afraid of Scottsdale; there are plenty of areas around Scottsdale that are not nearly as expensive to live in. That's the thing about Phoenix, everybody commutes. Plus you mentinoed there is plenty of work there... only negagive I can see is your family situation.

Sorry to hear about that... but if you think about it you had to move to the place where you're at now to meet the people you know (except family). There's more people waiting for you wherever you may go.
