Default Latch removal...

Im trying to service the latch because the rattle is unbelievable - it makes me want to sell my car.

I've got the correct sized screw driver.... but they wont budge! Anyone else have a hint?

Thanks!

Sorry this is a double post from the technical section (admins please lock the other one)...

I didn't get any responses to the first post, but would really appreciate any help... I suppose I just have to torque the hell out of the screws...

Assuming you mean the top latch, it's been an ongoing dilema for most of us for years. On some cars it's worse than others. I did notice that if I motor top closed, then roll up the windows, then close the latches, the fit is tighter and there are less rattles from the latch.

I had my car in for service yesterday and asked about my latches and strikers for my top and, after some research, they said they would fix them under my certified warranty. I don't see why your new car warranty wouldn't cover it as well.

Just do a search. The top latch rattle has been discussed countless times in the past and there are various solutions possible. Good luck.

Im sorry, I should have been more specific -- I have the service bulletin, but I cant unscrew the damn latch (the right top latch). There are two phillips headed screws that attach the latch to the top itself - and I cranked on them and almost stripped the screw...

was just wondering if anyone else was successful in taking the latch off - and if so, how much force was needed...

Thanks!!
