Fed up with clicking sounds from latch!!
I have gone through over every thread regarding this issue. It is not the plastic part of the latch rattling, nor is it the top bar. I've brought it to the dealer with no luck. Anyone have any ideas on why the latch rattles or where exactly where its comming from? The clicking sound is driving nuts, almost to the point of pursuading me in getting a Bimmer. Please help!
My top would rattle at the front latches with at only 3600 miles.. I found that if I put the top up, latch it and then hit the switch to pull it back really fast, it will snug it up some and not rattle. I dont know if this is the problem that you are having or if its an internal latch problem. HTH.

The front latch could rattle if the top is not adjusted properly. The Owners Service Manual shows how to adjust the top such that the latch would have all the slack taken out. I adjusted the Mugen hardtop at the latch point to the body to stop the front latch from rattling. There is no adjustment for slack at the front windshield frame mount for any top.
Pulling the top back by the switch is one way of 'adjusting' the top, but a more permanent one is shown in the manual. A stop bolt near pivot point behind the seats can be adjusted so the top won't go so far forward at its maximum.

Perhaps you've done this already. But before making any adjustments I would be sure to cover the basics.
Apply a small amount of silcone grease to the front seal on top of the windshield frame. Apply a small amount of WD-40 spray to the latch mechanism. When applying this place some paper toweling or newspaper behind the mechanism to catch any overspray. Also, use this same technique to the top frame mechanism. This can be applied by stopping the top at the half-way point when lowering or raising. Again place paper behind the frame as you lightly spray the joints.
