Lately we've been concerned...
I didn't quite read this whole thread yet... but here's hoping that someone has hacked Rick's account!!! Talk about coming out of left field. I just can't believe what I'm reading. And wouldn't Rick know how to spell Boxster???
Now, I'll admit, I don't like most cosmetic mods, but I really try to not criticize those who do. It's all just personal choice. I'm cool with whatever people want to do to their cars, because I know they are having just as much fun as I am, only theirs is modded and mine is, basically, stock.
To the second point, yeah, I'd agree that there is definitely more uncalled for rudeness than there needs to be lately. And maybe the general quality of posts has gone down. Or maybe the longer you are a member of the board, the more you read the same things and the less you still have to learn from the board? Really hard to tell, but, hey, that's what the ignore list is for, right?

As one of the few (I think) women on this board, the mods to make the car look more aggressive seem to be a guy thing...so what's new?! It doesn't bother me, though. I bought my car (used) for its beautiful clean lines and plan to keep it that way. People compliment me all the time on the car and are surprised to find out it's a Honda. Even the Porsche owners I've rallied with thought it was a nice car.
As for the board posters, there are some crude ones, but I think they are the minority from what I've seen in my limited time out here. Being a newbie and not knowing that much about the car myself, I've learned alot already from the members and am glad I joined s2ki. The only disappointment has been 1badride's informing me that my MOMO rims are actually stock rims with MOMO caps on them. Darn... At least I didn't pay extra for them.

Couple of thoughts....
1) There are really two points being made here. One has to do with acting mature on the board and the other has to do with modding the car. I think it would have been better to separate the two.
2) I agree with the statement that the quality of posts has been going down. I think much of this is due to the fact that for those of us "old timers" every thread is getting to be a "been there done that" experience. For newbies it may not seem as down as it does for some of us though. It could be a matter of perspective.
3) I'm really surprised to see Rick talking down to the idea of modding. His side business is based on getting people to mod their cars. Essentially the attitude is it's ok to mod if I agree with the mod, but who's to say one taste fits all? Don't get me wrong - I'm not a big modder unless it's performance oriented in some way. However, I would never suggest to someone what they should or shouldn't do with their car.

I am a new member to this site. I have scanned the forums and have found them to be very informative. I am selective in the ones I read. The 'color wars' never piqued my curosity. Never read one thread.... seemed real childish to me.
I personally find the body kits pictured to be butt ugly. But, that's my opinion. If someone wants to be laughed at by people who share my taste, or admired by others with similar 'tastes', so be it.
If this guy Rick sells 'badges' on this website he is just a typical hypocrite. I could say his badges are butt ugly, but I have not seen them so who knows? However 'he who lives in glass houses.....'

But in defense of those with huge body kits... and add ons .. I think the owner does have full right to mod his car any way he see's fit... It's also about self expression..
But hey to quote someone famous... To each their own!!!!

Long story short, to each his/her own.
With regard to the content within this forum, I think it has gone down hill over the last year or so. I don't blame those who post information, questions, etc. I blame the fact that there is very little new to learn about this car anymore. Remember when "the secret compartment" was a huge thread? Which SO2 tire is really the OEM equivalent? How many S2000s have been made so far?
Issues like poor stereo sound and crappy floormats have been put to bed through great products that have been developed by folks here, but I don't think we will continue to create new items at the same pace as a few years ago. That is the main reason I only check in once every few weeks instead of daily like back in September 1999.
Just my $0.02!
I happen to like my pink S2K - thank you very much. All you haters can take a big whiff of my fart!
j/k. I agree that the Veilside kit doesn't look right on the S2K, but in the end, it's not my car, and I don't have to drive around in it so I could care less. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions though.

Personally I find this thread ridiculous. Each and every guest/member of this site could post their opinion on this topic and it won't change anything. S2ki is a great community. From this forum I have gained more knowledge about S2000's than most Honda techs and likely every salesperson. To complain about rotten apples in this community is a waste of time. They won't go away and they have every right to say what they want, just as Rick has the right to say he doesn't like body kits. It is quite clear that Rick REALLY hates the Veilside kit. As adults we should react to the "in your face attitude" as adults. Things get out of hand when people, even adults, decide they have to have the last word or put people in their place.
I would like to add one more comment about this discussion. To quote the start of this thread, "If these add-ons provided some truly significant aerodynamic benefit, perhaps a convincing argument could be made for them." If this thread provided some truly significant information to this community, perhaps a convincing argument could be made for continuing to discuss it. Lets get back to sharing information about parts, repairs, and things that we love about this car instead of trying to instill a sense of "I am right and everyone else is wrong". See even I am conveying this attitude, and for that I apologize.
P.S.-My 61 year old father loves my car and takes it for a spin every time I go home. He enjoys showing it off to his friends and neighbors more than I do. He even likes the 3 accessories that I have purchased from Rick's site.
