I don't see what the big deal is here... guys, gals... simply put, there are people out there who just want to set themselves apart from other people. Plain and simple. Be it good taste or what you consider bad taste, it's just an expression and why should we be concerned? It's not like people who've seen these 'kitted cars' are going to look at us funny or bash us. So why should we bash them? I truly think people who have issues with these cars are subconsciously jealous... no, not jealous of the parts or mods but jealous that someone has the money to throw it into their cars instead of other priorities. As for the statement about guys over 30 who don't mod? Are you kidding... take a look at this... it's not my cup of tea but shucks... you think people are going to look down on Ferrari owners because of this???

I agree with your original beliefs Rick. I plan on keeping my car stock for a long time. Some of the outrageous add-ons that owners are doing to their Ss, all to be "different" than the other Ss. I don't understand it. It is true, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, what are they trying to prove or show about themselves when they do such things. Why don't they spend their hard earned cash on society's ills. It all seems to be an intimidation factor These owners say "See this modded car? I can kick your ass. I'm better than you." What's the point? It's a dragster mentality. All it shows to me is you have a lot of disposable income and you don't know how to spend it wisely.
As far as the forum is concerned, I guess it's no surprise that s2ki couldn't stay a virgin forever. Some of the posts are very disgusting and the language and immaturity is even worse. I just try to avoid it. In fact, I don't post nearly as much as I did in the beginning.

This seems like an odd post to me...in some ways it's quite contradictory. On the one hand, you're saying that you despise some forms of modification, and post pictures of specific examples. We can assume that if these don't belong to members of this community, then certainly some have cars that closely resemble those posted.

Then you proceed to say how immature posts and personal attacks are plaguing this board and degrading the S2KI experience. Did you not, in a way, personally attack some members of this board? Just an observation... I do agree that the level of maturity seems to have declined, even during my short tenure here. Hopefully this trend will slow, if not stop altogether.

As far as the body kits go, I wouldn't want any of that on my car. I find the S2000 to be a work of art, both aesthetically and functionally. I did say my car though - I could care less what someone else does to theirs. If it makes them happy, then more power to them. I bought the car because it spoke to me - it made me smile to look at and to drive. I don't care what other people say when they see it, who they associate me with, or what they assume about me because of it. If someone judges me based on the car I drive - let alone what other people have done to similar vehicles - then their opinion of me is irrelavent

Personally, I think that you were just sick of seeing posts about the Dark side vs. the Light side... Me too, honestly, since we all know that the Blue side rules them all

Well, I feel compelled to offer my .02. I've read the whole post so far and have a few comments:

1) Best thread in a long time! Good discussion. The number of replies is proof.

2) Personally, I hate riced out cars of all makes. Mine is nearly stock and shall remain so. I love the lines of the s2k, as anyone who saw my "Autoshow Garbage" post knows. But, being the father of a 17 year old boy, I can tell you that this is what kids do. It's a HUGE industry. APC, Street Glow, Stylin Concepts...if I could buy stock in those companies I would. Let me repeat, I hate cosmetic mods...stickers, over-the-top wings, neon's, subwoofers, you name it. But ya know what? It keeps my kid out of trouble. He rices out his car daily. Every time I walk past it and he's doing something to it, I say barely loud enough for him to hear..."rice!". He knows what I mean. But this is what kids do. Just like when I was a kid we would crawl under the car and change the oil. Despite the fact I think some of these mods are like pissing on the statue of liberty, if that's what someone wants to do, so be it. It's a free country. And that's the way I like it. I hope my perspective as the father of a teen sheds some amount of light on the subject. Haven't seen that perspective on any of the replies yet. And I don't think my point is applicable only to 17 year olds either. Could be twenty-somethings too.

3) The quality of the posts. I think there are a couple factors here. Clearly, the longer you've been a member, the more redundant the posts become. But that's cool. There's always a newbie who needs some info and we're here to help. I helped a guy get a great deal on an OEM spoiler from one of the sponsors today. Made me feel good. Saved him a few $$$. I think that's why we're here. At least one of the reasons. Secondly, I actually enjoy lurking at some of the other regions forums. The best ones, and I mean the best ones, are the ones where the people talk about anything and everything. They have become friends. And for me, that's one of the main attractions of the site. Erik (cthree) has yet to tell us that disk space is a problem, so I love reading about issues and things people are discussing on their community forum even if it's not car specific. As far as the "in your face" attitude...I agree. It's a societal issue. Commercials, ads, people, music...it's all about "attitude". I just ignore the posts or change the channel. And then I vote with my $$. Peace!

Interesting thread!

I think I'll pass on the aesthetics of modding. I can't really see that what someone else does with their car is anyone else's business but theirs. I don't buy the idea that as a group of enthusiasts we are somehow responsible for the continuing unsullied purity of the manufacturers original offering. I have my own views on the subject of course, but you have to have some brass neck to start to tell anyone else where you think they've over-stepped what is your concept of accepatable modding. It's unfortunate Rick that you raised the subject in a thread which goes on to deplore the lack of harmony on the board, when this subject has caused so much outright aggro in the past. Perhaps we should have a sort of ombudsman,... 'A Final Arbiter Of Good Taste'. Anyone up for the job?

Turning to the quality of the board generally, I think it still stands head and shoulders above any of the other boards I've looked at recently. I browsed the board for well over a year after I bought my S, and there is no way I would have become a part of the sorry mess that it was. Cthree took over the board and transformed it into an environment I felt happy about contributing the occassional brain cell to.

I have to say he ruled the board with a rod of iron back then, and some of his dictatorial proprietory posts didn't set too well in some quarters, constantly reminding people that were suffering under the delusion that this board is some sort of democracy, that that is the last thing it is. It is fact his board, his ball, and his game and he sets whatever rules he likes. There was a lot of moderation back then too and much locking and deleting of threads which is something I never liked personally. Certain subjects were totally taboo, politics and religion for instance. We've since had long and interesting threads on these subjects involving people of all persuasions and beliefs, without one flame post and without a moderator in sight.

I see very little moderation on the board these days which is as it should be IMHO. It's a shame that we seem to have progressed so far in some areas and now seem to be losing it in others. Peer pressure is the only answer really and if you don't like what you're reading say so, and leave the posters in no doubt. Once they realise this board isn't their scene they'll soon find plenty out there that cater to their tastes.

I don't think there's much wrong with the board, change is inevitable as people come and go, and doesn't have to be a bad thing as long as the newcomers get the right impression from the outset!

my 2 cents worth.....

Modding the body? Go for it if it pleases you.

These mods are like fashion. Today it's adding body mods to an import. I can remember a muscle car or two with outlandish 50 series bias ply tires sticking half way out of the fender wells in the name of improved traction, hood scoops as big as steamer trunks, chrome side pipes and the ultimate mod - air shocks to raise the back end a mile high. Today people pay ridiculous sums of money for these muscle cars in original condition proclaiming they have the most beautiful lines.

With regards to the apparent deterioration of the constructive exchange on this board that can be so informative, entertaining and enjoyable, I would have to say that I share the perspective that the quality is deteriorating.

We all share an enthusiam for an awesome car, lets cultivate and grow this community instead of flaming each other or trying to create sub-groups within the community.
