Lately we've been concerned...
As previously mentioned, I wonder what the response to this post would have been had say Bieg posted this?
Its one thing to voice your opinion of bad body kits, pulling user pictures up, cars that belong to actual owners and members of this forum to prove your point of how ugly they may be is in bad form..
Your parents never taught you, that if you have nothing good to say don't say it?
the whole tone of the original message leaves a bad taste in my mouth..
I don't believe that you are the litmus test for what is acceptle for the S2000.
I don't like the gaudy body kits either, but I wouldn't start a thread to belittle the owners that put a lot of time and money into thier cars.
As to your second point, I agree.
The posts as of late have been lacking in content, or entertainment, but again, I've been on this site for over 2 years.
Threads like that were bound to pop up eventually

I don't have two days to read all the verbiage posted before me, but I'll add my $.02 since you asked....
One part of me says "it's your car, it's your money, do what the f**k you want". That's what you'll hear from me in public. But I can't explain that feeling I get inside when I see that crap on our beautiful cars. I HATE it. Can't help it. I really do.
Rick, we've met in person and I think you're a top-notch guy and I've even bought some of your items (shift boot, voodoo knob), but IMHO your own personal car passed into the rice zone a while ago. The point is, that everyone has a different tolerance for mods. Mine is very low. Your's is medium. The cars in those pics are for the high tolerance individuals.
And for those who think that this is for the youngsters, I know some people older than I (I'm 32) who are happy to put ricey carbon-fiber parts on the exterior of their S2000.
FWIW, I too have noticed the quality of posts decline as the younger generation moves into the market.

Hmmmm, this veers perilously close to a "geezer attack," but I suspect the rhetoric is mostly caused by a distinct lack of seat-time in the S 2000. That is certainly so in my case. Right now I'd be happy to go for a ride even if I had all that aftermarket plastic. It's not necessarily how it looks, for me, it's how it goes.
Rice it out if you want to, I can always shut my eyes, but please, God, let it get warm again!
Hang in there, Rick, we'll be mentally well-adjusted in only a couple more months.

I echo what many have said about "to each his own" in terms of what they do to their cars.
I believe one reason the site has evolved from being so incredibly useful to more of a melting pot is simply because the car has been around for awhile ... it's not really such a novelty anymore, and we're not discovering new things about it every day.
But guess what, we still want to come here and hang out - and fun places attract people (some of who aren't very well behaved, just like a family or a group of friends).
I've driven Hondas my entire life, and I do not associate myself with the "FnF" or "rice" crowd ... and I have never had the thought cross my mind that someone looking at one of the riced-out cars above would think less of MY S2000 because of it. And isn't bagging on those types of cars actually an example of the complaint you made about making insensitive remarks about people?
Of course, if I was worried about status, I guess I would have bought a BMW, Mercedes, or Porsche, huh?
I
Hondas.
Now back to the Corner for some more intelligent, worthwhile posting.
Ha ha!

just like the c-west, veilside all them body kits...
You know what's really pathetic and ruins an otherwise great Honda car and takes very little effort and $$$...?
those S badges.... now can you imagine putting some thick plastic sticker E POS on a jag e-type?
nerds.

Rick is entitled to his opinion as well as everyone else who has replied. Don't flame him for sharing it, he is in the mod business and at least he is honest. I choose to spend my money on go-fast mods and other people like to spend their $$ on the grotesque atrocities I have seen above. That is my opinion and like everyone else-entitled to it! That's what these threads are for-to hear the differences in taste and style! Let everyone speak their piece and enjoy the opinions. Phil
Regarding the comparisons to the XKE: I don't expect to ever hear that an S2000 is on display at the Museum of Modern Art or that it makes anyone's list of the xx most beautiful cars of all time.
I really like my car, but I don't think that it's a drop-dead gorgeous street version of a Le Mans-winner like the XKE was/is.
I can't get all that worked up when someone's modifications to an S2000 don't meet with my aesthetic approval. However, many years ago I had to bite my tongue *really* hard as someone described to me how they'd put a small-block Chevy in an XK120. Now there's someone who should have been dealt with harshly by the mod police.

Great thead.... love the idea that this is a discussion instead of dozens of passionate members repeating the same thing.... which I happen to agree with. While this isn't exactly Socrates, (that's not So-Crates for us younger folk), it certainly beats who beat whom on the on-ramp, and why XXX car sucks.
BTW the grammar lesson was a nice touch, too bad sentence was misspelled. Also, I thought the word 'an' was only used before words that started with a vowel. like an avalon.....
but then again, what do I know

Sorry, but I find this thread insulting. While I may not like the lines on the pictured Veilside kits, and would never put one on my own car, I'll be the last person to look down my nose at someone for doing so. I respect that they're enthusiasts, and admire the passion they have for their vehicle. It may not be to my tastes, it may not be to yours, but it's their decision. Automobile manufacturers have realized this some embrace it. Was my 2002 M3 convertible a "self-conscious hell on wheels" compared to a normal 3 seris because of the huge grilled opening in the front bumper, fender flares and loud dual exhaust? If so, take it up with BMW - the only change I did to that car was a set of BMW logo valve stem caps. Yet the mods I've done to the S2000 are (for the most part), less aggressive than the same factory package on the M3. The "wildest" appearance mod was the addition of the Mugen wing, and there are numbers to back up its aerodynamic effectiveness.
The car is not a work of art. It's a blank canvas... if we didn't want some sense of individuality, there would be no automotive aftermarket, no factory options, no color schemes, no differences. Hell, there'd be no "Rick's Signature Accessories".
In the end, to each his own - if a "riced out" S2000 is what floats some 20 year old's boat, so be it... have fun. I'm 30 (roughly), a professional, have a strong career and do this without concerning myself with gain/loss, public opinion or popularity of said parts. I'm in it simply for the fun of it. It's a trip to pull up at a gas station and have teenagers try to talk my ear off about the car, and by the same token, it's gratifying to stop in the dealership and talk to the small crowd of 40-60 year old employees and salespeople about what's "next" on the agenda.

"Sorry to say I am over 30 (physically, not mentally ) and I have modded my car to the dissatisfaction of a few folks on this board. Hell even hecash has changed the physical appearance of his car and Harry's what? 50+? I am sure there are a few of us over 30+ crowd that has added a spoiler or front lip that wasn't oem."
Dan IMHO you have the best looking s2000 I've seen to date.
