Lately we've been concerned...
Thanks for sharing pictures of that body kit Rick, it's awesome in yellow.
If the owner is willing to spend the money (and spend the time necessary to detail all the nooks and crannies), I have very high respect for them.
As for your second point, I think we need to keep the number of posts from enthusiasts down to 2 a day. That should clean things up a bit.

Rick,
Have to admit I'm a little surprised by your post. I've come to respect your opinion about many topics on this site and I think you sell quality products. Like you, I think modifications should be subtle, functional (hopefully) and in good taste. Unfortunately, it seems that certain personalities just can't go through life without making sure everybody else notices just how cool they are. It doesn't matter to them if the "wing" is functional, so long as people "point and stare". To bad they don't realize that most of those who do so are mocking them.
"What's acceptable"? What a can of worms! Sure am glad I'm not in charge of deciding the limitations! (BTW: do you live in a glass house?) As far as body kits being "functional" to be acceptable I have to say that that's not a valid chit. Most of these cars will never be anything more than daily drivers. They might see brief bursts of speed into triple digits but for the most part normal speeds - which make the possible effectiveness of the mods moot. It's seems to me that the real issue here is perceived damage to prestige. Will the S2000 ever have the respect commanded by the elite of all autotopia? It certainly would be on the podium somewhere if up to me.
Youthful exuberance to be accepted and possibly envied by peers demands action and inexperience of new inductee's into the world of mods often produces garish results (and of course the required defiant attitudes when questioned). Personally I don't feel the need for the brain drain necessary to test the limits of acceptability and I would hope the strengths of the S and the true affectionato's who stand behind it are strong enough to stand a little "lunatic fringe" action. Hell, just roll your eye's, shake your head, and do what they do - pretend that you don't exist. Life is short.
As far as people being rude, crude, and socially unacceptable - open forums are not the place for BS like that. If you have a problem with someone else on the site I don't want to hear about it unless its truly criminal. PM the hell out of each other or better yet - get together outback and dance! There's an old axiom in the world of law: "If you loose your temper you've lost the argument". Under ordinary circumstances that is a true indication of maturity. I think people who insist on being abusive and crass on the site should be cut off at the knees.
This is a great site with plenty of knowledgeable and personable people who generate useful info and interesting topics. I also think it has a solid core of members who are interested in keeping it that way. Certainly will do my best to maintain the status quo.

IMO - veilside makes ugly kits. never seen one I liked. Some of the kits for our car are *okay* (mugen comes to mind) But mostly I have yet to see a kit make our car look *better* I like the BackYard Special chin spoiler and MasterGrade's fenders. I think that's about as far as I can go......
Triple-H is right on,
While I think those cars look like ass and would probably laugh as they passed they can do whatever they want, it is called freedom. Everyone has their own opinion of style etc., and for someone who is in the business of mods it is extremely hypocritical to oppose someone elses modifications.
Secondly, yes a majority of the post here are immature, so lets think of a solution, possibly creating an additional forum titled "immature youth rant" or "I am young and rich and want everyone to know it". Don't even get me started on the color war because that could be the worst waste of time ever and I am sure nearly everyone young/old on the board has been involved.
Finally, everyone will just have to get over the fact that their are different generations of owners on this board. While I understand that there are many "founding fathers" on the board who may be upset with how the site has metamorphisized over time reality is that the site is now enjoyed by a broader cross section of society.
And remember this old timers....us young rich bastards who are/will be funding your social security...and in my opinion red is by far the worst color with black a close second!!

Rick, were you having a bad day?
Seems pretty negative on both fronts.
Perhaps the first point nibbled away at your "image" as an aftermarket supplier a little.
There is something unethical about knocking a "competitors" product... maybe that's an old notion.

I find it shocking to say the least, hippocritical to say the worst, that this comment on modding has come from someone who makes a living helping people distinguish their S's from every other. I find it to be a sad commentary on YOUR integrity, Mr. Hesel. Unless, as I hope, you have just started this thread to 'stir things up' due to boredom?
While I agree that some of the available mods are not appealing on a car that to me is virtually perfect right out of the box, who am I, or indeed, any of us, to say what works or is right for anyone else? Welcome to the United States of America where no one is entitled to dictate how you live your life, with the caveat you're not harming your fellow inhabitants.
With regards to the second point, as was stated earlier, this is inevitable on virtually any public forum, and indeed, falls under the same ideal of freedom that I expressed above. Because I don't like what someone does or says, does not give me the right to expect them not to do it. If you don't like what someone posts, the choice is yours to take responsibility for what works in your life and not read it or disregard it. For me, there are far more intelligent, rational and insightful posts on this board than ones that I find useless. It's all a matter of relativity and I say 'to each his own'.
Myself, being a heterosexual male living in Los Angeles, I have had to put up with much friendly ribbing from friends and family that my Spa S2000 is a 'gay man's' car and people will think I'm gay for driving it. To which I reply; "It's MY car and it's exactly the car that I wanted, regardless of what stigma YOU may choose to put on it, that is all that matters." I don't really care what other people think about it, and frankly, anyone that is going to make judgements about me based solely on any single aspect of my life is not someone whose opinion I would wish to know.
With that said, kudos to you Mr. Hesel, for coaxing me of my perpetual lurkdom here and provoking me to think and share my thoughts with you all.
BTW: Hello all! My name is Bobby and I just picked up my brand new 2k2 Spa which I love and I think this board/community ROCKS. [/dorkmode]

Yeah, it is somewhat frustrating to pay so much into a program you will probably get very little out of because of the the way the population has grown and aged since the program was put into place.
It was short sighted of the people who put the program into place to expect a constant life expectancy and linear population growth. [Edit: Not to mention those that borrow from the fund and never put it back.]
But it's also short-sighted to suggest people can't express themselves. I'd much rather hear complaints about people with tatoos and body piercing than what my fellow S2000 owners are doing to their cars.
