I had my cd's (50 in a zip-up) stolen last month! I left my top down while at the dentist office. I was parked right in front and the receptionist had a clear view but didn't remember seeing anyone near my car. The one and only time I have ever left it parked with the top down and I could not keep my own eyes on it.
Never again!!

I just remembered another time I had the top down while I was under the hood checking the oil and when I got back in there was bird poop all over the passenger seat!

Same here. Give no reason for someone to reach in and take something.

I don't like leaving the car with the top down, far too tempting for some low-lives that walk by. I have done it a couple of times though, if I will stay within sight of the car. I have come back to find bird crap in the passenger seat once though.

Well, I don't understand why people do it, but it seems like that someone always likes to be the "tough guy" and show his/her buddies how "cool" they are by damaging/violating other people's properties.

I've left my top down numerous times since my ownership of the car, mainly because the neighorhood that I leave the car in is considered to be nice, that and the fact that I keep a direct view on the car at all times. I've had no problems whatsoever... so far; people usually admire from a couple of feet away and just walk afterwards.

However, today I drove the car out to a restaurant/bar to pick up my gf's friend. I parked it in a spot near the front and walked over to my gf's car which is about 10 feet away. Still keeping my eyes on the car I greeted her friends and chatted for a bit. Then, out of the restaurant comes 4-5 kids, probably in late teens early twenties. One of them leans over my door and looks inside, then walks away mumbling something to his friends. Then one of the girls of their group walks up, and I barely made out her proud annoucement of her wish to just "jump inside the car" and something something. I am alarmed and amazed, kept my eye on them the entire time but not saying anything. I really wanted to see if these kids were ballsy enough to do anything to my car.... if they did ohhhhh I swear to god.....

Anyway, maybe I just have too much faith in people. I have witnessed other incidents where people wanted to destroy another person's property, ie: my friends' parked motorcycles, and some people wanting to kick it down. I still don't get why. But after today, I'll be sure to pack a baseball bat in the trunk for those "cool" kids/adults/people with malacious intentions.

ps: sorry for the long post.

I am not so worried about having items stolen then jealous A-holes throwing garbage or a cup of coffee or even a cigarette into the car.

Windows up keeps people from leaning in........but youre right...if people wanna do something....theyll do it...whether you have a prox alarm....or a guard dog......

goes to show you if you put your mind to it....anything it possible.....

9/11 taught me that.

The only stuff I have in the car consists of a CD wallet (which always stays in my console) and my V1. When I park with the top down, I always just stick it in the console and lock it up.
