Default Left my e brake on!

So the other day I let a buddy of mine take my 2001 for a spin around the block, and he left the e brake engaged! Arggghhh!!! When he drove up we could both smell the usual hot brakes odor.

Test driving since then indicates that the brakes are still working fine. The rears seem like they may not be grabbing as good as they used to though, but it is hard to tell. He litterally only drove it around the block 2 times.

The car only has 10k on it, do you think I should replace the pads, or am I just being paranoid?

I did that when I first learned to drive stick on my first manual car (eclipse). I learned the first day and on the second day I went out to practice and got a few feet from my house and then coudlnt move at all. I kept stalling left and right. I was both upset and relieved when I noticed I had the parking brake up.

Never caused any damage though. Just pride . . . . lol

Don't worry, you most likely didn't cause any damage. If the rotors don't feel warped your probably okay.

If anyone finds themselves in this situation don't park the car and leave the ebrake on thinking you'll just let them cool down, your better off releasing the braking and either driving around the block once or just let the car sit and cool w/o the ebrake applied of course.

Thanks all for your feedback. Feel better about it now, but sure wish it hadn't happened

Didn't hear a beep since I have the 01, but I'm sure the little BRAKE light was glowing on the instrument cluster.

Yea, I wouldnt worry about it because if he couldnt tell that the ebrake was on it must of not been on to tight.
