locked out of 5th

Default locked out of 5th

Last night driving home, I went to shift into 5th and heard this horrible grind. The clutch was fully depressed but it just wouldn't go in. I really didn't think too much of it. I washed the car and put her away in the garage. This moring driving to work, i discovered that i can't get it into fifth and sixth is a little notchy.

Does anyone have any clue as to what this might be? I want to arm myself with a little info before i go to the dealer with this. Anyone else experience this?

Bummer. I have not heard of this specific transmission issue before. It certainly sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order. Good luck with the repair

I was speaking with a guy at work, probably not a synchro. Maybe a bent fork or misalignment. Not sure what all this means specifically.

Wow, a fifth gear grind. Sorry to hear about that. It doesn't sound like a synchro problem to me either. Better take it to the dealer to have it looked at. Let us know how it turns out.

I drop it off Monday morning for evaluation. It seems like something is blocking the gate, no matter how hard i try, it won't shift into 5th. I will post the findings.

Bill,

Bummer dude. Sounds like a broken synchro or a bent fork. I had 5th gear go out in my Integra..........it would go into 5th but when I released the clutch there was nothing but a nasty nasty grind.

Good luck with the repairs . Hope you get your back in time for the meet this weekend. Don't let the dealer give you any s**t!
