Default locking poltergeist

In the past few months, my MY 00 has been suffering from a mysterious ghost like ailment. After unlocking the car, if you wait anywhere from 10-45 seconds, it will lock again. This happens every time the car is unlocked and it does not matter whether the door/trunk is open or closed. I have had to be very careful about keeping the keys in my hand at all times. If I empty my pockets on the passenger seat, I have to be sure not to put the keys on the seat too because after I close the door to walk around the car will lock.

Can anyone shed some light on this mystery before I let Honda get into it?

It sucks, but it's normal.

Hmm, that's not normal if it happens when you have a door open.

Do your interior lights still come on when you open the door? Maybe the button that pops out when the door opens is stuck, so the locking mechanism triggers because it doesn't think the door's open.

I can't think of any other simple solution, offhand.

This is normal. If you press the unlock key, but don't open any doors it will lock the doors back. If you press unlock and open a door, it shouldn't lock them. I guess they think if you press unlock and don't open any doors that you might forget to lock them back.

After 49 1/2 months and 78,000 miles of ownership of my 01 S, I have NEVER had anything like that happen to me. That's really strange, but I think I'll keep my keys close to me at all times.

Does it happen when you have the top down too? do all of you who have this problem use the remote? My S came w/ 2 remotes but I never use them because they're so bulky (I don't like a bulky key ring). I just use the key to lock and unlock the doors.

My '04 locks itself intermittently. Sometimes I go to the garage and itss locked. I don't lock my car at the office (it's in full view), but sometimes when I go out it's locked.

Gremlins I guess!

Do you keep your key remote in your pocket? I have the problem that if I move certain ways or lean against something, I lock my car. Happens all the time. I also thought I had gremlins until I figured it out. Once in a while, I hit the panic button and sit there wondering "who's car is beeping?"

I never had this problem with our Dodge minivan.

BTW - My wife's new Mazda 3 also locks itself if you don't open the door.
