It shouldn't lock with the door open if you use the remote either. The only way you can lock any honda drivers side door with the door open is to pull the handle (either inside or outside) while pushing on the locking mechanism. If your door locks with the door open, then (once again) as Colin said, your car doesn't know your door is open.
