While no mechanic can fix this problem, an Exorcist can. PM me for references

I have a 97 Civic HX that had the same problem and after a while it stopped locking all by itself then I noticed my keyless entry does not work anymore after that. Anybody got any answers?

As others have said - it is normal if you unlock the car, do nothing, then it locks itself again.

It is NOT normal if you unlock the car, open a door, and then it locks itself again.

Sounds to me like the car does not realize that you've opened a door. Check the little switch in the door jamb. My gf's MY03 sometimes doesn't register an opened door.

THANKS FOR THE REPLIES!
The car will lock itself again with or without the door open. This is with the keys in hand no other buttons pushed. Just push unlock on stock fob, open door and wait. Or, push unlock button, open door, close door and wait. This is not a good feature, especially where you don't hear it lock and close the door thinking its open and the keys are in the car. Raining like heck here today, so I have my accord but I will check the door button. I suspect it is not stuck because I have not noticed any problem with the interior light.

You don't happen to have the factory security system, do you? (Red light on the console, small button under drivers side dash on left, small antenna under drivers seat, option instead of trunk button on remote)

I know it has three settings, 1 (maybe 2) of which will automatically lock the car after 30 seconds or so.

Just a thought.

Good Luck!

What if...you unlock, open door, unlock again (I do it out of habit) . Will the door lock then? If you unlock it while the door is open...?

So that's what that is under my seat! I had no idea. I still haven't seen any button under the driver's side dash (probably because I haven't looked) What does that do?

Mine has been doing that for about a year. Ticks me off sometimes. i'll go downstairs to get something outta the car and it is locked. Or I'll be washing it and it'll lock itself (as if it DOESN'T want to be clean!?!?!).

:knockonwood:

I haven't locked my keys in the car......yet.

The button under the driver's side dash engages/disengages valet mode for the security system.
