Long term storage; any concerns?
Hey folks,
Having recently taken a keen interest in classic cars, restoration and maintenance, a common theme comes to light in many magazine articles that I've read. Cars that have been excessively stored for years on end before being "found", suffer from the same symptoms; rusted under body components, worn bushings, and sagged suspension, not to mention rotted tires.
While I'm not planning on tucking away the S for 10 years before my next drive (believe it or not), I do have some concerns. The car is in storage for the entire winter, in many cases, as long as 6 months here in Calgary Canada. Since it is stored in a dry, heated garage, rust issues aren't a problem. (Car never sees rain, and gets washed maybe 3 times a season)
That said, what other concerns should I have with extended periods of storing? I have stored cars over the years and am familiar with the generic rules to abide by when storing. Basic stuff like over-inflating tires, parking on foam pads, and disconnecting your battery are not foreign to me.
I'm more concerned with what things to keep an eye on, 5-10 or 15 years from now, when my S recieves the same, extended storage each year, with little driving even in the summer time.
Experienced techs, mechanics and others in the know are welcome to shed some light for me. I don't need to hear about how "you should drive it more"
