Default Long Term Storage

I'm going away for a few months and will be unable to drive the S. I intend to leave it in the garage, battery disconnected handbrake off. Does anyone have any hints/tips to help preserve the car's condition? Has anyone left an S for months without use? It will probably be checked every couple of weeks but not moved.

Obviously the best thing would be to have someone drive it - haven't found anyone I trust my precious with yet tho!

No personal experience, but I have seen cars in long term storage on 4 axle stands, to keep the weight off the tyres.

I have stored cars for long periods of time. It depends on the place you store it, barn, garage, de-humidified etc?

Id say if its in a garage do as you are doing, disconnect battery, stand it on axle stands on the solid axle points (Front lower arms and rear axle) leaving wheels on but not touching floor, grease a few bits and bobs, throw a soft sheet over it.

Autoglym do a hood preservative by the way.

I work away on 2 months on/ 2 months off rota, and the only thing I do is leave the handbrake off. I have someone start it every couple of weeks and so far it's always been fine.

I'd spoken too soon! Just got back from 2 month trip, went to start the S, and car alarm sounding - battery dead!
Discovered the boot open so assuming when my father started the car 2 weeks ago he must have popped the boot release and the light has drained the battery! Why does it always work when you don't want it to???

Re insurance - if you disconnected the battery, presumably the alarm would no longer work after a period, and no alarm not covered by insurance .............?

I'd get hold of a trickle charger if you had access to power.

Thanks for the advice - car is now safely tucked up in the garage. I have persuaded someone (via the medium of alcohol) to check on her every couple of weeks. I look forward to the results in a few months time...
