Loss of Power
Has anyone else had this experience?
I was driving the car a lot at the weekend on numerous short trips. The car was sitting for maybe 10-15 minutes between stops. The weather was hot, between 35 and 40 degress C (around 95 - 105 F) and it was humid.
On a couple of occaisions as I floored the accelerator
, the power seemed to bog down
, with the VTEC barely noticeable when it came in
. Slowing down, going round the corner and flooring it again and it just started to fly like normal....
Weird experience, but has happened more than once.

dude,
I learn't this from a Honda tech. and have always done this and to my amazement plesantly suprised. ALWAYS make sure your oil level is at the optimum level. VTEC totally depends on this. If you have less than the full mark, you will notice a slight difference in the pull you would usually feel.
When I bought my car, I checked the oil at around 2,300k and it measured below the low level. I called Honda and they told me to add 10w30 non-synthetic oil, and I also explained that I don't feel as though this car is as zippy as when I first got it, and that's when he explained that VTEC is fully engaged when the oil pressure is at the optimum level, which mean't that your oil has to be on full mark. I have been making sure my oil at least never gets below the low level mark and sometimes if it is halfway and I add approx half a liter, to equal full. I do notice more power especially on the hwy pickup.
That is the key to VTEC. I had a 98 GSR before this car and whenever I just got the oil change, I always felt as though the car loved VTEC, I know the GSR doesn't burn nearly as much oil as this or probably non at all, but this car is VERY Different and WAY COOLER!!!!!!!
Peace Bro

You are not alone. The s2k has a heat penalty.

Your biggest problem is the heat in your engine bay, it rises while you park. The ECU retards timing to a large degree when it senses hot air. This is why your car feels slow, if you were to say head out on the highway for a bit, you would notice the power come back. Plus frequent stops and starts are bad....well not that bad, but it does add more friction then you need
Cheers guys,
This is my only car, I don't have the luxury of having a run around for those short trips to collect people and nip down the shops, not that I would want one, as the S2000 is perfect even for those, but obvioulsy I am going to run into these sorts of problems while using it. Such as the problem of fitting a bike rack to take the mountain bikes away at the weekend.
But then again, when you can have a car like this.... who wants something practical?!?!?!
