"There wasn't a "kick" so to speak, but a noticable boost in acceleration."

just yesterday I put down a deposit on an s2000 for an '01 model. so no more type-R, IS300, whatever!

if there's no kick, how's there a noticeable boost? care to explain?

The first Vtec Civics only had it on the intake side not the exhaust. at least in my 95 SI anyway

Good thing you waited 614 miles. For those new owners who don't, beware of premature VTECulation.

To clear up a few things:

The acuras had the VTEC on both intake and exhaust while the Hondas had it only on the intake side. The vtec technology has been around for a long time. The prelude that Baryy speaks of was a neat car, the only better engine that year (outside the NSX) was the Integra GSR 1.7 liter vtec, thats what is in my civic, it makes a big difference. Honda also matched the vtec in some Model Year cars with a secondary runner set up for the intake manifold, that was the greatest sound ever, having the secondaries open up and your car takes off!

Of course now the S2000 has the VTEC technology on both intkae and exhaust so we can enjoy the best engine ever built.

If you're excited about the "boost" in power now, just wait until you have a few thousand miles on it! The VTEC kick gets stronger as the engine breaks in. Around 3-5000 miles, it will REALLY push you back in the seat
