I have noticed a few times now that the engine cuts out at about 4,500 rpm when it is still cold. I usually give the car a couple of minutes to warm up before getting on it, but sometimes it takes longer than just a couple of minuts. I talked to the dealer about it and he said, that he had seen this problem before. I asked if I was doing any harm to the engine when it cut out and he didn't think so.

Do any of you have any experience with this? Is this cut out feature, programmed into the car?

Yes...Look up three bars on old posts. The car will not allow it to rev past 4500 if you don't have three bars on the temperature gauge.

Are you sure it's at 4500? The car will not go into VTEC before you have 3 bars on the temp gauge, but that should happen around 6000, not 4500.

Mine has always gone to 6500-6800 rpm. go figure, and thats just after you get the boost, then it cuts out, one hell of a ride. . .

Did you notice in the write-ups of the new M3 that its rev-limiter moves up 500 rpm at a time as you warm the car. You don
