Default loud awkward noise

Twice now my car has made this huge loud, cracking noise. Kind of like a pop and a crack at the same time. It happens when I shift into reverse and back the car out of the garage. It happens not when I shift but when the car first starts to move as I give it some gas. It sounds like its coming from the back of the car. And it happened after I had not driven the car for several weeks or a month. Anyone else have this happen to them.

Its your emergency brake coming loose after sticking...it happens to all of us at some point or another, nothing to worry about.

If it's cold out, the rear brake could be sticking to the rotors and the pop is just the brakes coming loose.

yup, its the brakes sticking... and releasing.
it will also happen every time you wash your car if you dont dry off the brakes (by driving and using them), and will often happen even if you do dry them.
its normal.

If your garage is not slanted, leave the parking brake down and put the car in gear to prevent the poping noise.
