Default low idle

when i'm at a stop, or the engine is in neutral w/ no gas, the engine speed drops very low, like it's about to stall, then comes back up to the normal idle speed. once in a while, it stalls. if i give it gas, it drops low again, then comes back up again. i already cleaned my MAP sensor, and did the MAP sensor whack, but neither of those made any difference. i tried disconnecting my battery for 10 minutes then reconnecting it and letting the engine run on its own for 5 minutes (to reset the ECU). that didn't work either. what should be my next step?

also i'm getting the CEL for a knock sensor malfunction. could this be causing the idle problem, or is that an isolated problem? also i can't find the knock sensor. i know where it is, but i can't get to it and thus haven't been able to see it yet. others previously suggested that i did something while installing my header (since the CEL came on minutes after), but i didn't touch anything under the intake manifold (where the knock sensor is located).

can you guys offer any help?
TIA
