Default Map Sensor Problem (Engine Issue)

I've been reading up a lot the last few hours on map sensor issues. Why? Because my car is completely dead outside my house.

I'm not really sure if the Map Sensor is the problem or not. Let me explain the situation.

For the last year I've been getting a sputtering when the car starts up on occasion and it almost feels like it about to cut off. Well last night it sputtered and then completely stopped running. Since then I haven't been able to get the engine to turn over. It begins to turn over but won't start up. I'm in the process of replacing my battery as it's definitely time to do so. However, does this have anything to do with the "Map sensor"?

If it is the MAP sensor how do I "whack" it? What does it look like and how do I do it? (That sounded really bad).

Am I on the right track?

Thanks everyone!

Ty

Put in the new battery and see what happens. This may be all your car needs. If it still continues to hesitate on start up, you may have an ECU "learning" issue or an Idle Air Control problem.
To do the "MAP whack":

Excellent post Xviper. Thanks for sending that.

Any more ideas if the battery fix and the map whack don't work?

Other than the IAC is already mentioned ................................
-fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure reg, dirty injectors, bad spark plugs, valve adjustment, air filter.
But don't sweat the big stuff till you get the little stuff out of the way first.

Update.

Car seems to be working fine now. Thanks for all the help. I replaced the batter and whacked the sensor. Seems to be running smoother then ever.

Thanks!
