ive noticed that people tend to shift later than i am used to. for example my friend (got my s2k off of him) always shifted around 4-5k when accelerating, i tend to shift if the blip for 3 gets lit. yeah maybe i drive like a granny but i get the same mileage as my DD which is around 28/32 mpg. thing about that tho, if you shift too early you have to press the throttle more = more fuel being used. sometimes its more fuel efficient to stay in a lower gear than to shift to a higher.

i think in general, the sooner you shift, the better. some cars actually force a shift from 1 -> 4th, like the vettes under certain throttle conditions. basically, if you're at < 1/3 throttle, when you hit a certain speed, the car will not let you shift from 1 -> 2 or 3. this is so that they can print a higher mpg rating for the vette. really frickin annoying btw... i removed that feature asap.
