Default Lowering the shift knob

I have the Voodoo shift knob, and though it is a huge improvement over the stock knob, it still isn't exactly what I want..

I had a 91 MR-2 Turbo, and when I lay my arm on the center console, the shifter was right in my hand, no bend in the wrist...

That's what I'm looking for...

Is there anyone/ anyway to either change the shaft for the shifter, or hacksaw off the top to get it lower?

also are there any negatives to doing so (wear & tear on the shifter, gearbox, drivetrain, etc)

Thanks in advance for your input, I know someone on here will figure this out!
