Default Shorter shift?

I changed a 2001 miata for the s2000. I am eager to pass the break-in period!
Anyway, does anyone know if the shifter can be shortened? I would like it to be closer to the console (like the miata).
Another question: how do you remove the knob? I tried unscrewing it but it is very tight and the whole shifter seems to move. javascript:smilie('')

Loosen the lock nut under the knob before unscrewing the knob, the knob may have a bit of lock-tight on the threads.
Buy a Voodoo knob or a round knob from MuzMat - see sponsor links or do a search.
The round knobs are drilled deeper than the stock knob so the knob sits lower on the shift lever, thus shortening the throw. A very nice change/improvement!

voodoo is probably your best bang for your buck when it comes to short shifting. other than that, you can get a C's short shifter. i am not sure if people here sell it though, i have seen then for sale in Japan..

Yes, you can get a Distinto Bellezza / C's short shifter kit ... For approximately USD$350 if I'm not wrong. Check the board sponsors for availability in stock ... If they do not have it, PM me and I'll provide you with a non-board sponsor online purchase site.

If you are going shift knob which is the perfect way to get started, go Muz.
The Muz knob is bigger in diameter and fits in your hand much better, unless of course you are about 4 feet tall and have hands that correspond to that size.

It's a complete new kit which replaces the OEM shifter ... I don't know how much it reduces the shifting, personally the OEM shifter and voodoo titanium knob is good enough for me ... I don't need to go any shorter, but it is made of the same exact quality similar to the OEM shifter if I'm not wrong as well.
