lowering springs?
so sorry for asking so many questions lately, but i finally have some money to mod a little bit, and i wanna make sure i dont mess anything up!! so back to my question; can I just use lowering springs without anything else? what i mean is if i wanna lower my car can i just use springs without shocks or anything else?? if so, would it cause any damage or would i lose some handling?? thanks for all the continuous (sp?) help!!

If you're after looks only,(or mostly)you can use low cost(Idon't dare to say cheap)lowering spring, with your OEM shocks.
Your car will be lower(looking good???)your handling will degrade, and your stock shocks will be shot,in a few hundred miles.

for mildly spring rated spring(and slightly lowered) it's no big deal to use on stock damper, it might shorten the damper travel a bit but i seriously doubt it will degrade the suspension.
remember the reason for lowering is firmer spring rate and negative camber, which will help cornering
it will however shorten the life of the factor damper, but there's no rule of how long it will last. but again, you have to factor in other thing such as dust boot and most importantly bumpstop(which need to be trim)
<--tried spring on stock damper, spring on aftermarket damper, sleeve over on aftermarket damper and full coilover
I lowered my previous S with only springs, ..never again!
It is a "cheapest mistake" I've ever done to my car. Let's remember this for a second.. we bought this car, largely, because it's handling capability. What I did, and what you about to do, is directly screw up one of the most prestigious feature on this car. For everyday drive and show off, it's probably good enough. If you ever track your car, I'll let you come back and tell me your best lap between stock spring and what ever poo poo spring you put in.
All that said, you will get a mix respond here. But if you go ask poeple in racing and compitition section, 99.99% will said the same thing. Go with a good set of coilover when you're ready.
BTW; Choosing coilover is even trickier, ..mind you.

Wait a minute not all lowering springs dump the car into the weeds and ruin the oem showa shocks. H&R for one lowers the car .75f &.60r. not radical at all. I am probably going this route until I can afford the coilovers. They are made to use with the oem set up.
