I appreciate Chris' reviews on products, many of which I would never get a chance to buy, but in case I win the lotto, it's good to know.
I use Muteki black lug nuts and have not had any probs with them chipping, rounding, etc. The finish is as good as it was when new (aside from being really dirty). They're not quite as light as Rays, but I could save the same few grams of weight by taking a piss before going driving. My friend will be getting a set of blue Mutekis soon and I'll let ppl know if they fade if anyone is interested.
I really like the Trust lug nuts...too bad the finish on them chips also. The only reason I'd get the Trust ones would be the look/finish and if that gets messed up easily, I'd rather just stick w/ my low cost Mutekis.
Friends and I have also used McGard spline drive nuts with no probs in the past, but these don't come colored, just polished w/ a colored cap.

I think I am going to order a set of Mugen steel lugs for my new wheels.

I went from Trust Lugs to Muteki Lugs then to Rays Lugs ... And out of the 3, the Muteki ones gave me the biggest headaches and problems. I had the open ended version in blue and they chip immediately when torque tightened. Because of how "rare" they were, I ended up buying 3 sets which only lead me to sold them off in a jiffy. They couldn't hold up to 1 day of track work and 2 of the lugs had even seized without being overtorqued on 2 different wheels. If it wasn't for my H&R reinforced lug studs, the OEM studs would have broken off without a doubt when we attempted every possible way to remove it without using undue force.

The Trust ones (I have the extended open ended ones) are no different from the Rays ones (Blue extended close ended ones), they can handle alot of abuse, wear and use. Even taking a rattle gun (When you absolutely have to) to it won't kill it unlike the Mutekis. Along with the lighter weight, I can't complain since they need to match my racing wheels. As for color fading from the Rays, I've yet to see this happen. I've got 3 sets installed on 3 different cars driven with different mileage annually. I'd opt to stick with the Rays because of the locking lug feature. But usage wise, they're no different.

That sux I just bought some. I wanted to go rays but got scared of the aluminum so I thought steel lugs like muteki would be fine. I got the closed ended ones though.
