I've been thinking about mentioning this forever...

Has anyone else noticed the magic of 4000rpm?
In every gear, it's nearly perfect. Nearly.
First is a little off, but otherwise, for all
practical purposes, it's almost dead on.

1st / 4000 / 20mph (really about 23)
2nd / 4000 / 30mph
3rd / 4000 / 40mph
4th / 4000 / 50mph
5th / 4000 / 60mph
6th / 4000 / ...

I typically cruise/shift under 4000 and
know the sound of 4000 and inherently
know my speed based on the gear and revs
at 4000... Just a little bit of magic.

Interesting, I'm almost always above 4,000 RPM even cruising on freeway.
I know and like the sound at 6,000 RPM myself

Honda knows.

Here is the recommended shift speed from the owner's manual and rpm calculations I made for those speeds.

1st to 2nd.....15mph 3146 rpm
2nd to 3rd.....25mph 3445 rpm
3rd to 4th.....40mph 4022 rpm
4th to 5th.....47mph 3659 rpm
5th to 6th.....52mph 3376 rpm

I was also thinking today how sweet things are at 4,000 rpm. However, that's partly making do, since I'm forbidden from 5,501 rpm and above for a while.

I used cruise control quite a bit today and rarely crossed 4,500, NEVER crossed 5,000.

I think Honda put 6th in FOR BREAK-IN. How could they claim they put it in for driving 166 mph and still be a "family oriented" company?

Ya'know... sometimes, I try to get a little better mileage... Especially considering this is my daily driver. Which is both good and bad:
Good = vroom
Bad = 1900mi/mo x 10 mo = 19000 mi

Ah well, that should all change soon when we move to the Rosslyn/Clarendon area...

Last night, on the other hand, that Eclipse GSX didn't see a shift short of 9k... MUHAHAHAHA

ahem...
