Default Maint. Need warning light

I have an 04 S2000 and the light came on of late. It blinks for about 10 seconds then goes off upon starting the engine. Possible causes?

I purchased the vehicle used and no owners manual accompanied the purchased.

All Honda owner's manuals are on-line, just download your own personal copy for free. Google is your friend.

The 2004 Maintenance Required Light blinks when the car has been driven in excess of 6000 miles since last serviced. If you exceed 7500 miles the light stays on. You're currently coming up on (as least) an oil change at 7500 miles but you gotta look in the book to determine what else. (The 2006+ Maintenance Minder is more specific and the schedule is not in the '06 manual.)

Thanks Chuck. Should have thought of the online manual... I just had the vehicle serviced so the mechanic probably did not reset the code. Regardless good info and I will give him a call and have him take a look.

Before MY06, this light is just a dumb miles counter, to keep you aware that the 7,500 mi oil change window is approaching or has arrived. From 06 on, it has algorithms that provide variable oil change intervals.

Beyond the light and resetting it with each oil change, you can also get a used oil analysis to see just how the oil is doing. Typically even at 7,500 mi, S2000 engine oil has plenty of life left with normal driving.

Especially when using a full synthetic multi-grade and a new oil filer every oil change as we tend to spoil our cars (and lawnmowers ) with.
