i did not add any words into your mouth/post. honest! just deleted a few things

I have to say that from the start to the finish this has been the best thread I think I have ever read on this site. Your writing style is beautiful and kept me wanting to read through its entirety. I also enjoyed reading the responses.
You brought back many happy memories to an old man. When I finished up my 1st masters degree in May of 1976 I decided I was going to drive from Chicago to San Francisco to L.A down through Texas, and back to Chicago before I started work in September. I have to say I was lucky because my parents paid for my education. I knew I was starting a good job and I had saved money so I decided I was going to buy myself a new car before I started my loan adventure. I purchased a very slightly used (approx. 2000 miles) 1975 Porsche 911. When I finally returned home in late August, I believe there was around 13,000 mile on the car. We did not have digital cameras, but I did take many rolls of film and still have the pictures. I just don

Then we managed to go to a different place, and took some pics. At 4am (yes we were still going!!!) there was us 3 left. The guy in the 350Z is an S2000 owner, who had his brothers car. Man the 350 got some torque!

I hoped my brother was a good host. Wish I would got this tread sooner, I would met up with you in Denver. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
Thanks again for sharing your pics/experience with us.
I really enjoyed reading your posts.. and your philosophy regarding your work is very admirable.
I wish I had more courage to finish my studies (transportation design).
Anyway, like someone said, your posts made me wanna go on a road trip again!

I don't have any other roadtrips coming up, but i am in Dubai/Brunei/S. Africa a lot, and maybe I will make some travel threads, for you guys to enjoy.
Yes, all my life I have been very patient, it has really helped me. I have had girlfriends get mad because I don't get mad. Go figure. I learned not to have a temper WAY before law school. My dad had a very short temper all my life, and though he meant well, I swore never to be like him.
If you are ever in So Cal, come say hi. I travel to NY a lot (spent a few years in Long Island), and will say hi next time.

I'm actually the same way in relationships, I have never yelled at a gf. There is no point to escalating the situation or making it illogical and emotional. The last gf admitted trying to piss me off and was suprised when it didn't work. She was a handfull with her mind games. A response built into emotionally driven people who desire a feeling of being needed. I was far too logical and her far too emotional for it to work out. Great girl though, and i wish her the best.
If i'm in your neck of the woods I will definately give you a pm and we'll set something up, or vise versa in my neck of the woods. I would probably keep steering the conversation towards your travels in foriegn countries. Reading it from a book and having someone speak about having been there are two fundamentally different learning experiences. Text book is key in learning the foundation, yet the foreign students help me learn about the culture. Nothing will compare to when I actually step foot on their soil and live with them though.

Im jealous of your travels. I'm currently a senior at RIT in rochester. My major is International business, with a co-major in Marketing and a concentration in Chinese. I can't wait to start traveling and explore the world and the cultures.

Hi Jimmy,
I am glad you enjoyed reading the posts. Like I said, I bought the car in NYC, and was going to ship it. Couple of my friends dared me to drive it, and I have always wanted to do a cross country trip.
It was now or never, and I decided to pull the trigger. Why pay 2500$ in shipping cost enclosed, when I can have memories that last a lifetime.
I am glad you enjoyed the trip. I would love to see your road trip pics from back then. If you ever get them scanned, please PM me, and I will send you my address.
I was on scholarship through undergrad (parents couldn't afford a college education-they had govt jobs). I decided to take loans for law school, because being a lawyer was my dream since I was a kid. Always wanted to have my own legal clinic for the people who couldn't afford lawyers.
Though I grew up all over the world (dad was an ambassador), we were never rich. We always had the nice house and the nice car, but they were owned by the government. So I saw the poverty and terrible conditions all over the world, and it always touched me.
Given where I come from, being a doctor or engineer would have been normal. However, I always wanted to be different and looked for a niche where I could help people. Not just pay lip service to it, but really help.
However, my law school loans prevented me to get into social welfare work right away. I also didn't want to be a pencil pusher with the social department, I wanted to be down in the fields and work with people in whose life I made a difference.
Thus now I am at a place and have a job that allows me to do that.
I reconnected with many old friends on my journey. I also made many NEW friends, and these relationships will certainly stay with me for the rest of my journey. Yes, they were car people at front, but I got to know them, spend time with them, stay with some of them, and they became a part of my life. Cars were secondary, and life became more important, friendships became primary.
Though I have always been introspective and have spent lots of time getting to know myself, the trip gave a different perspective. Perspective about people, that I always cherish. New relationships that ignited the soul. New people that gave brightness to the tunnel of life....
In short, it was a great journey, and I am glad to have shared it with so many people and I hope some of you thoroughly enjoyed it.
I have owned a 993, and they are great cars. However, I am always lusting after and looking for an immaculate 993 Turbo S. Someday.

My job allowed me to see the world. I read that you are planning trips to Dubai and South Africa. I have been there along with India, South Korea, South Viet Nam, and many places to numerous to mention. I saw first hand the mistreatment and social injustice that people had to endure. The things I have seen will forever be etched in my mind and I will carry them to my grave. My eyes were opened and I try to support those organizations that can truly make a difference, such as, Doctors Without Borders.
I am honored to have made your acquaintance, even if it is only through a S2LI forum. Be well and have safe travels.
Thanks,
Jim
