Had to stop every 220-230 miles to get gas. 10-12 hours in an Elise is nothing! Try it in a Catherham 7 with carbon fiber seats, from Denver to Achorage!! Pics coming

AUGUST 6TH
Drove from Grand Rapids Nebraska, to Denver, CO. Arrived at 3pm at the house of Skip Cannon. For those of you that don't know, he has 299 cars, and has been active in the Miata/Lotus club for many many years.

Arriving at his house, which has a detached work area/shop:

Upon arrival, I realize my Elise is the slowest car there. Skips has all turbo cars. His turbo Miata is a 12 second car, with all the doodads on it. His Caterham, painted BMW Laguna Seca Blue, is also powered by a Turbo Miata motor, and is a 11 second car. Lastly, his Subaru Legacy Turbo wagon, has been chippped to 290hp. After meeting and talking cars for a while, we headed out to meet Tom, ex Attorney General of Alaska, who has worked on the Lands Act and couple of other rather infamous legislation.

Tom himself has an eclectic collection of cars as well. He has a UNIMOG, 1 of 15 Ford Escort Cosworth in the USA, Audi RS4, 944 and others. Though he lives in Alaska, he is down in Denver, building his own Caterham, which is powered by a 260 HP Cosworth motor. When asked, what he will do with so much power, he smiles and says,

Now I am back tracking a bit. If you remember, in Chicago, I took the car into TJ at Fox Valley for service. They did a great job. I didn't have my camera (only time on trip), and TJ was kind enough to let me use his camera. So here are the pictures I took while there.

My car on the lift, with TJ working on it (on his day off!)

TJ cursing my car,

I get more jealous every time you post

299 cars? That's insane! Wonder what the fella did for a living previously to allow him to enter into the most ideal retirement I could imagine
