Default Many newbie questions

I just picked up a 01 S2000 about a month ago and have been loving every minute so far, but I have some questions. I've been considering getting a couple of mods. Why do dual exhaust for the S2k not add that much HP? Is it because you have to split the exhaust since it's an inline engine? It would be nice to get some HP gains instead of paying a grand for a better sound.

Also I'm considering buying new rims. I want something that will look good/unique but will be better performance (e.g. lighter weight). People say 18's are more for show and 16's or 17's will be better in regards to performance. Can you feel a difference with different wheels? I really like the OZ Superleggera or SSR GT1. Has anyone seen those in white on a car before?

I have been looking at what everyone posted about supercharging. Is it that reliable with a engine that has such high compression ratio? Do you risking knocking? Does anyone have any comments about Vortech vs Comptech?

One last question, does anyone have pics of S2k that were painted a custom color? Is a paint job going to be worse that the factory paint? I was considering get a metallic blue or british racing green paint job, but by no means want it to look bad.
Thanks for all the input! Anyone out in Hawaii know of good shops to deal with?

1) you will notice that most mods don't get nearly as much out of this engine as they would out of something else. That's because honda has already tweaked this thing out to be a tremendous over-achiever.

2) The lower profile tires you use, the harsher the ride will be. I for one don't think it's such a big deal and am putting 18" Oz Superleggeras on next week.

3) Forced Induction can be reliable but in general, adding forced induction to any engine can bring about a whole mess of problems. I would think that it would be even worse on this car but i guess time will tell. I don't think anyone has put enough miles on a FI S2000 yet to really know. The bottom line is that YOU WILL lose reliability, it's just a matter of how much.

4) A paint job is going to be as good as the shop that does it. If you've got $$$ to spend and get a really good shop to do it, it could look amazing. It's really a matter of money, obviously it wouldn't be cost efficient for honda to spend as much for paint as it will cost you to get a really nice custom job.

I always liked Spiderman and thought he was a manly and cool superhero, but he sure does look gay dancing in some of these posts.

Anyway, I think a set of 17in Superleggaras are in my near future also.

I am new to the S2000 myself, but let me try to answer some of your questions.
1. Our engines are an inline 4, which means that there are no separate banks of cylinders. The Dual exhaust is mostly for looks rather than anything else, and you can reduce weight by going to a single exhaust, or better yet going to a titanium exhaust although they are extremely expensive, and I don't like how they look either(bigass exhaust tips are not my style).

2. You will have to becareful when buying rims, because larger rims, like 18's are going to add weight, and in reality a LOT of weight over 16 inch rims. Each pound of reciprocating weight equals 7 lbs of dead weight. A set of rims that add's 10lbs total will be like adding 70lbs of weight to your car. 17's may be the best compromise, and the SVT division Ford found that for most cars, 17 inch rims provide optimal handling. You will also have to realize, that larger rims with low profile tires are much easier to damage. Because our 16 inch rims are already low profile as is, 18's could negatively impact handling and speed.

3. Can't help you with superchargers.................

4. Can't help you with custom paint.......
