Melted the brake seals

Andie,
thanks for being forthcoming on all the issues.
The Porterfield R4-S is quite dusty, but not corrosive.
I try to be smooth on the brakes, and have learned to stay short of ABS when braking on the track. I'll probably buy the Panther Plus when my Porterfields get too thin. Unless you would like me to 'evaluate' them for you on the S2000
Ted
p.s. The S2000 ABS is not as rough as some that I have felt. The car is very controllable while ABS is doing it's thing.

Andie, look forward to your comments about our ABS after your tests this weekend.
Do you have any feedback yet from the s2k people who are running Panther Pluses front and rear? That would certainly be relevant for me.
Thanks for the time you're taking to answer our questions in detail and with candor.

While driving at Gingerman with the Hawk Blues, I was engaging the ABS alot, pretty much to the point in the heavy braking areas where I just started to get lazy and purposely used the ABS.
I was attributing this to the fact that those pads had tons of initial bite, and I think the ABS saw such a rapid deceleration in wheelspeed that it was anticipating lockup more agressively than it would have with less braking going on.
Though I was getting the ABS to engage regularly, I didn't find it obtrusive at all. I am very curious about removing the ABS fuse though and doing a session or two out on the track without ABS for comparison. Has anybody tried this in the S2K?

Hi Andie
Thanks for the quick response. I'll give a call Tuesday so I can get the proper pads. Actually, the Panther Plus front and R4S rear doesn't sound like a bad mix.
I managed to get two more track days out of my worn R4S's this weekend. The fronts are almost totally finished, but the rears still have half their compound left. When I checked them before heading to the track, the fronts were starting to crumble at the edges, but the rears were fine.
BTW, I was wondering why the Panther and Panther plus use rivets to adhere the friction compound to the backing? Is there any way to tell you're about to hit the rivets before they hit the rotors?

Clark, you're not the first to melt the dust seals at Gingerman. In mid-August Apex76A2 using Porterfield R4S pads did the same thing. I know he is planning on switching to Panther + setup Andie recommened.
Andie, thanks for the very informative posts.

Thanks Dave to inform me about this thread. I, too, suffered a melted brake seals in Gingerman with R4S. I am thinking about going for AP Racing Brake, If I don't sell the car by next year. Apex76A2's S2K has flaming brake into turn one in Gingerman. The view was spectacular. The aftermath is not.
Now, I have R4 on my S2K. I am going to Waterford this Thursday. Maybe, I will find out how it goes.
