Here are some detailed pictures of the engine swap work that BSI Racing did to fit the F20C & transmission in the car.
This is the cut and modified front subframe to fit the S2000's big oil pan:
This is the steering column mount extension:
This is one of the custom motor mounts:
These are the transmission mounts which are designed to allow the use of the Miata's famous Power Plant Frame (PPF). You'll notice that they attach to reinforced frame rails:
This is the custom driveshaft, the centerpiece of the whole swap. The Miata's drive shaft is about 5 inches longer than the F20C shaft and also has a different bolt pattern. BSI had this custom adjustable driveshaft made which slides in and out to compensate for drivetrain movement and has an adapter from 6 bolt (S2000) to 4 bolt (Miata). It's a masterpiece!:
All that work down there results in the F20C sitting as far back as possible:
And has a nice effect of the shifter landing in the center of the hole:
Damn man, car looks amazing! I didnt realize that the swap would fit so dead on with the miata dimentions. The engine and tranny, and shifter lining up like that are going to make it look like it came like that from the factory
Alrighty Then! First day of preparation for the body shop. The plan is to prep the interior and engine bay for paint and then let a body shop coat her in white.
This is how she looked when we brought her back home:
So then, work commences on stripping the interior... Note my esteemed helper Jose-A!
The nasty pedal assembly:
Dropping the steering column to remove the dash:
The dash & pedal assembly are OUT!
After hitting the interior with a wirebrush and soap/water, it's time for CHEMICALS!
We start on the rear tray and decide to do a mock-up on the two rear downbars of the roll cage. The steps are: 1) Wire brush/Wash, 2): Lacquer Thinner/Scratch Pads, 3) White rags & Prepsol (until rags come out white), 4) Self Etching Primer (Green stuff).
...And that was it for Day 1 of prep. Thanks to the Fuds crew for coming up and providing company, you guys rock!
