Default Mice/Damage

After taking precautions for the last 11 years the mice finally had a small victory. After charging my battery after winter storage I started my '02. While it was running I did a secondary check for Bounce sheets, etc. I happened to notice a sheet I had placed up tight to the driver's side firewall. Upon close inspection I found a mouse nest tucked into the corner next to the dryer sheet. After pulling out the nest I found some damage to wire insulation near and in the nest material area. Luckily nothing was shorted out. You can see the metal showing and they also chewed on the black plastic wire guard.

I met with a claims adjuster for American Family Insurance and he took pictures. It will be covered under my Comprehensive Coverage. Now that the adjuster and I have met I am going to use some liquid tape as a fix until I can get to a Honda Service Center.

Good thing you use precautionary measure and that the damage wasn't much. Even mice have to live somewhere and what better place than in an S2K!!

So do dryer sheets work? if so where do you place then. Is there a thread somewhere?

I've used them for years with no issues but I store my S in a fairly recently built garage so it is pretty well sealed.

I put one in each foot well and a couple in the trunk.

I normally put dryer sheets under the seats, in the trunk, in the air box, and around the engine compartment. In addition I put cloth bags over the exhaust tips and some sticky strips around the perimeter of the garage.

After this incident I am wondering if my dryer sheets were old and weren't pungent enough.

I visit the camping forums and keeping mice out of travel trailers is always a topic. More of a problem there as food is frequently left inside over the winter.

Some claim dryer sheets keep mice away; others notice mouse nests made of the sheets and finding mouse droppings on others (there's an in your face comment by the mice!). Moth balls are another claim but the mice poop next to them as they can't get their little bottoms on top of the moth balls or perhaps it falls off.

A Jackalope is, of course, the solution. I know this since I've kept a jackalope in my campers for 14 years and have never had mouse damage. 100% protection, unlike only partial protection of the other methods. This is just as scientific as the dryer sheet research!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I always put a dryer sheet over the intake to the airbox.

A few years ago the mice furnished a pretty nice condo in there.

Mouse damage is the worst. I haven't done loads of research but for everyone that says they have the answer there is someone that says it didn't work for them.

Keep a hungry cat in the garage
