Well, I have never passed 4800 rpm, I have been very gentle with the car, but when I checked my dipstick this evening (after 24 hours of stand still of the car) the oil level was at the 2nd X between L and H. Considering I only have 490 km. on the odo. (300 miles) isn't it too much that I am missing 600ml of the famous Tochigi oil?
Who is going to answer the next action that should take place in this situation??? I must note here that we do not have 10W-30 multigrade in Greece, only 20W-50 which I am not very keen on using and the dealers action was to instruct me to bring in the car and top up with BP VISCO 5000 5W-40 fully synthetic, or Honda 10W-40 fully synthetic. "No harm done for 400-600 ml added" he said! Now that is what I call a good time over the phone... I think I will go straight to a full synthetic oil change, despite the S2Ki faq. Anyone???

Most new engines will go through oil during break-in so I wouldn't be a bit concerned about it now. As far as using synthetic oil...I'm not going to anytime soon. I have never had a problem with the "old fashioned" and will continue to use it.

 

It would be best to follow the FAQ! Its there for a reason. If your gonna go synthetic its all or nothing. No partial stuff! Just top it off with regular oil not the synthetic crap.

You need to stick with "mineral oil" for at least 5,000 miles. If you switch to synthetic too soon your rings will not seat properly (especially the "skirt ring"). The molybdenum in the break in oil is of very low volatility and is not what combusts when oil is "consumed". Add any weight "mineral oil" available (10W-30 preferred). NO SYNTHETIC no matter what anyone says until 5,000 miles minimum.

 

Well, thanks everyone for all the very usefull replies but what would you say if I told you that I called the Greek Dealerships technical manager today, asking him for advise on the matter and he replied:"whatever action you take, it is ok. We (HONDA) can either add BP VISCO 5000 5W-40 SJ fully synthetic oil(!!!!!) or completely change the unknown brand of the oil inside the engine, with a fully synthetic one!(visco or Honda gold)" When I informed him about the seating of the rings, he replied:"I have the written specs from HONDA JAPAN that the inside oil is 15W-40 SJ" (!!!!!).

Now what can I answer to that?

Well, if you have an oil with SJ rating it usually is synthetic. There is no way you can find a multigrade with an SJ rating!(at least in Greece) because SJ denotes that additives have been added in order to reach that specification. Could it be the engine type? Greek (European) models are F20C2 engine types (98 RON)
