Default Question about adding oil, new car

I checked my oil and it appears to be in the middle region between High/Low. Is it okay to add oil myself or should i just wait it out a bit for the 37500/7500 interval for oil change? I ask because the car is only 4 weeks (just hit the 2k miles mark this weekend) old and i read that Honda uses some sort of additives or whatever in the car to break everything in properly? If its okay just to add some oil to the car, is there a particular brand i should use? Also, each of the little X marks on the dipstick, are they suppose to represent a quart? And when adding oil, is it okay to add oil when the engine is still cold in the morning? Or should i warm up the car a bit?

top it off with 10w30 honda OEM oil, or mobil drive clean. (they are the same thing). Also mobil drive clean is DIFFERENT than mobil clean 5000.

Lastly, i advise against using synthetic until at least 7500 miles.

Hi Green Tea,

Synthetics definitely cost more, about 3-4 times more.

Btw, is your new Rio Yellow burning engine oil? or it came new with half on the dipstick?

thanks

If I am not mistaken, if the oil is between the two marks (middle) you do not need to add oil, plus it is a Honda it should not burn oil

Damn near every single one of my Honda's burned oil, especially when driven hard. Amazingly, the '05 doesn't seem to be burning much, if any, oil.

I wouldn't worry about adding oil as long as it's between the two marks.

Its very common for these cars to burn oil, especially during the break in period and afterward with heavy driving. Check the oil EVERY time you fill up.

IMO i would never leave the oil between the two marks. there have been enough horror stories about #4 cylinder failures and scoring due to lack of oil. aside from that, if you know it's down, fill it up, before it burns more oil than you realize and next thing you know there are only 3 quarts in the engine.
