Mis-shifted!!!!!!!
There is something about this that I don't understand. I've missed the gate a few times when making a quick 4/5 shift, and the shift engagement is totally different when I hit third rather than fifth. Even when I've done this shifting so quickly that I actually got the car into third before realizing it, the extra resistance from the syncros make it obvious that I've blown the shift, and this realization usually takes place before the clutch is out far enough to do anything more than just barely start engagement. I don't understand how it is possible to hit third when trying to hit fifth, without noticing that the shift itself feels all wrong. To me, it seems that the faster I shift, the bigger the difference in the way an upshift and a downshif feel, so I don't see how speed-shifting makes it easier to miss the shift without noticing until the motor screams. Not understanding what is happening worries me, because I drive the car hard, and don't want this happening to me. What causes this? Why don't you feel the difference when you shift? These horror stories are scaring the crap out of me.
