Pretty simple: Their house, their rules. If you don't like the rules, move out.
Otherwise be extremely grateful that they're willing to pay anything for your car. My children were allowed to buy a car AFTER their first year in college. Or, they could move out, and pay for college themselves or whatever. They were smart enough to stay in college.

This is the first step in maturing: Accept that their are limits in the world and that you have to live within them...

Because you're not paying for all of it.
If you can afford "most" of it and your own insurance, forget what the parents think, wait until you can afford all of it, and do what you want.
I agree. If you aren't buying the whole thing, then you don't have full say. It's like partial ownership of everything else; all parties get their input.

I strongly disagree with younger drivers buying cars like this, but that's on general principle and experience. There are exceptions.

Tell her Ull buy a motorcycle instead and she will quickly change her mind. Also like many others had said. If you can't pay for it your self then dont buy it. It will never be "your" car if u cant pay for your own. And that includes all expenses. E.I insurance and everything else comes with ownership of a car.

I had 2 years of driving Integras (1 92' rs then a 92' gsr) in high school, then got myself an S a month before graduating. I thought i was ready because i was good with a standard( 3 years) and i could basically handle the devestating $485 a month payment. 4 months later i went 73 MPH into a house and got 6 months probation along with a CWOF(continue without a finding) on a wreckless endangerment charge. I was paying for the whole thing by myself (3 grand for insurance/$1200 sales tax/485 per month.wear and tear) and i look back and it wasn't worth it at all. Almost killing my friend(my stupidity caused him to flip his truck at 55 mph) and myself because i HAD to have a nice car. HIGH SCHOOL KIDS SHOULD BE IN FWD COMMUTER CARS!!! Im 19 now too so it was only last year...still on probation actually. good luck with the car though if you do get one....

Well, my first car in high school was an '82 S-10, so that was RWD...

But I had an '80 Chevy Citation, after that! Now that was pimp...

I don't know you personally, but if this is your first ever starting car then it is a very bad idea. Of course there are exception in life, but the average first out of teen young men are a lack of a better STUPID/IMMATURE. The S2000 are not very forgiving even you make a simple mistake at very high or moderate high speed. Like my instructor said "people don't know they are making dangerous mistake while driving because they are not driving fast enough, but you will be amaze how the car will react if you brake while turning at high speed in a RWD". If you do get it, then congratulation and enjoy.

my pediatrics book for nursing dictates that adolescents percieve death as in a way so that they feel that it'll never happen to them. in other words, adolescents feel that they are invincible, causing them to have more risk taking behaviors etc etc etc. well... i know this to be true because thats how i thought when i was in highschool... lol
i'm not directing this to anyone or saying that all highschool students are immature, but i'm just saying...
ap12ap2- 485/month is a blessing to me. i pay 600 monthly for just the car

holy crap...600 is rough, but I'd do it too if i had too, (and could). I was only bringing home about 700-800 a month working part time. I got my new one down to a nice 398/month payment and i earn maybe $1000 a month part time, Its easily managable. you must be a rich 20 year old shotiable!

your dad is probably thinking back to how much he wished he could afford an s2k or similar when he was your age, and wants to live vicariously through you...

anyway...until you're totally financially independent, you have no real say. as for the rest... we can't convince your mom for you.

my 2cents in general on the idea of you getting an S... i was 24 and had plenty of driving experience and maturity (so i thought) and wrecked mine in Feb. you don't even know how to drive a manual and are still in high school...? I would not put the keys to an S2k in your hands if i was your parent. but hey, its your parents call (and i guess yours). try not to wreck whatever car they do buy you.

everyone knows how old i am now >.<

i'm not rich, i'm just lucky to have the support of a lot of people around me. my dad helped me build my credit so i can get a loan. my sister loaned my money for some of my down payment, my gf helped me raise more money for down payment, and arranged to live with me while school is going on... she also got her parents to help me out with my payments... so... i'm not rich at all, theres just alot of people around me that support me, and i'm really thankful for it

edit: before sounding like a moocher, i should also mention i work two jobs while going to school. my bosses have been very flexible with me so that i am able to maximize the hours i work.

in conclusion, i'm one lucky son of a gun
