My dad can teach me how to drive manual, its just my mom doesn't like me driving around period.
I am not sure this kid is for real. If he is, I would have to now side with the mom. An automatic Hyundai is more appropriate.

I've gone through several cars but I paid for them all. I always looked at it as if I'm paying for it then I'll get what I want. If you're going to be working and paying for it then get something you're going to enjoy

Basic breakdown of whats happening. My dad encourages me to get the S2000. My mom on the other hand doesn't want me to have a manual sports car. If I'm paying for most of it, how come I can't choose my own car then?
I have argued constantly with her, and she isn't going to agree with me buying a used s2k. I've also told her that the insurance is almost the same as the 08 Si. Any suggestions to help me out?

*sorry for the post being so long*
listen to your mom.

Having driven manual cars since "back in the day" I don't see what the big deal is. In fact I insisted my son learn to drive a manual 1st, then he could get whatever he wanted, he has since owned 4 sticks and 2 automatics. I hate it when I hear someone say " I can't drive that car because it is a standard."
Good luck getting what you want, you're the 1 driving it.

I was wondering, can your mom drive a standard?

i can't imagine my 1st car back in the day being an s2000. i started w/a '91 golf (100h.p.! ). i don't think it's safe. if u've never driven b4, especially manual, the si should be plenty fast. it will have double the h.p. of my 1st one. maybe even settle for something less like an eclipse 4-cyl.?!

I bought my first car, which was a '96 Saturn SL2 auto, for $1500 of my own money. It lasted two years before it developed an engine knock and I traded it in for my S. Pretty much the only reason I have the S is because my parents knew it was time for me to get a new car when my old one started to go. They offered to buy the S for me but I chose to buy it myself. In turn they pay for my insurance and apartment.

All in all I'm glad that I paid 100% of what the car costs. I feel much better driving it around and I enjoy the car that much more because I know I earned it.

I heard this on one of my previous threads on S2KI:

'If you want a Civic SI, everytime you pull up to a stop light and see an S, you'll be like 'damn I wish I had an S'. But if you have a S, you'll never say 'I wish I had a SI'

Get what you want to drive, not what your parents want you to drive. Just make SURE you can pay for it. If anything, ask for some help from your parents.
